Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 18651
mail merge images fields
Last modified: 2021-02-13 17:00:59 UTC
Hello, It should be possible to mail merge images from image fields at databases. Currently, inserting image fields place holders only print a single blank space. Using form image controls does not allow synch and printing a form loses formating allowed by mergeing fields. At least, a macro for this function at tips and tricks or how-to. Best regards. setting to "NEW", because this request is often heard on users maillists.
I found this issue and would like to add some aspects. I manage images in a database and have forms where images can be viewed from and inserted into the db-table. But I can't find any way to list them. neither in reports nor merging them f.e. in labels nor is it possible to create an image-control-field within a subform. Will there come any form of making images usable in OO-documents? As it is possible to view an image out of a database in a database-form, I think, the first step is already done. Greetings, Claudia
Hello I hope this is the same problem I have, I explain mine: when I want to send an email containing some text an an image to a mailing list, I use mailmerge from writer. I select my database and follow the instruction of the wizard. Everything is ok and the mail is sent without problem. Then when the person gets the message the text is ok but the image is not there. That's my problem. Best regards Cyril
Hi Mathias, I have changed the current owner to your owner. Please take the ownership of these enhancements.
I'm trying to do a mail merge with a different images in each letter, but in my case the images are generated, not stored in a database (they are QR codes), so I would like to have way of inserting image where the image URL (instead of the actual image content) is loaded from the database.
We also needed this feature, but as this issue does not seem to be addressed soon, we wrote a simple extension to work-around this problem. If you interested have a look at http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/text2pic Feedback and comments are very welcomed Hope it helps others as well. Rigpa IT
This issue seems to have generated a lot of postings on the forums but, so far, it still seems an issue in OOO3.1 Any possibility of a fix? It seems crazy that you can store a picture in a database, and even display it on a form but otherwise do nothing with it. You can't include it in a report and you can't use it in a mail merge. I have been trying to use OOObase to generate photo ID cards for staff but it seems to be rather a non starter. The extension mentioned by Rigpa IT is nice but adds too many extra steps for non experts to use - they want a 'selected it' 'print it' approach. A template for a mail merge with a database could be made fairly simple to use if the pictures just came over like every other field.
Well I suppose it is an improvement you can now include an image from a database in a report (all be it impossible to control the size so you get a cropped part of the image most of the time). Why is this still outstanding and labelled as as enhancement? surely being unable to include a field type, available in base, in a writer document is a failure not a nice to include one day? This bug was reported in 2003! Is nothing happening to fix it because it is thought to be of no interest to people? If the latter is the case why have 1210 people felt the need to download Rigpa's extension, in the last few months, to get round this problem?
Dear OpenOffice Team, meanwhile the workaround extension has been downloaded 2127 times. Is there any possibility for a statement by an OO developer ? Is anybody of the OO team following this issue/bug/request? Please give us a sign. Thank you very much. Best regards Bjoern
Just adding this kind of field to our current fields would require some larger changes in our code. Such an effort is not planned just for this single feature. If we had some other features that build upon the same code changes, the overall investment for the code refactoring would be justified. It is possible that this will happen, but it's too early to make a definitive statement about that.
quote "It is possible that this will happen, but it's too early to make a definitive statement about that" mba 22 feb 2010 Too early? It was first reported on 25 august 2003!! 2185 think the workaround is worth having so why not a fix instead?
hi, problem still up to date and we are in version 3.2! I'm very interested in the solution. christof
I second that. I really need that fixed too. Markus
Would it possibly be a simpler fix if you could just insert images as characters into calc and then just bring them over as characters? That would meet my needs although I assume it would still leave out a lot of functionality.
I see last comment on this one was made 2010-04-04. Is there any development on this issue? I would relly need this one to work. /Johan
Two and a half year later this feature si still required.
