Description Frank Schönheit 2003-09-01 15:43:18 UTC
This rose from issue 18614.

There are situations where the "copy table" auto pilot applies magics, which
isn't clear to the user. E.g. in the scenario of issue 18614, where a DATETIME
field, when copied from MS Access, is silently converted to DECIMAL, the user
doesn't have a clue of what happened - until s/he e.g. tries to create a query
which compares the column with a date value, which is rejected. Finding the
*cause* for this rejection is up to impossible for the unexperienced user at
this moment.

Given that the auto pilot has the difficult task to mediate between a lot of
different database with a lot of different types, it should offer more help for
the user if something happened which may cause trouble later on.

@fs: In a current version you'll get an error message that the type in the dest
db isn't available. So there exists no magic anymore. Does this convince you?
