Description fabienst 2003-09-11 13:49:20 UTC
Open file to mail-merge.
Go to Tools -> Mail merge
In the record list, click on the upper left button to select all records (it
selects 11 of 11 although there are 17).
If you go to the last record [after having done the selection] (using |>|
button) you will notice that not all records are selected in fact.
Then choose to merge (to file or printer) you can then notice that not all
records are merged. (only the selected 11 are merged)
I provide you with 2 files : one containing the data (DataFile.sxc in bug
19402, file id: 9178), the other the writer document to merge (mergeFile.sxw
in bug 19384, file id: 9159).

There is a workaround (which may help you correct the bug) but I think the
above should be corrected as it doesn't behave as expected. The workaroud is
as follows : Open file to merge, instead of going to Tools -> Mail merge, open
the Datasource viewer using F4. Then select all records using the upper left
button. When you then mail merge using the mail merge button of the datasource
viewer all records are merges and not only the selected ones as previously
explained.

hello fabienst, as in the issue 19402 this is due a database concept.
just think of having a dadabase of 2 terrabyte of data. so if you
select the table only the data will be selected that has been read
till then. if you click on the upper left button after you went to the
last record all data will be selected.
to print all record just select the all records radiobutton in the
mail merge dialog. this will be the easyest way to print all the
records.

so i'set this to invalid and close it

invalid -> closed
Comment 3 fabienst 2003-09-11 19:56:50 UTC
Ok, maybe it doesn't really select all (in the dataviwer when
clicking the button), but what I expect is that all are printed. So
when I click on the upper left corner, I expect all records to be
merged and the button "all records" to be selected instead of the
"only selected"
That would then be a request for an enhancement

So i reopened the issue (if I'm not supposed to do so, tell me)

I agree to fabienst here: When the user selects the upper left corner
of the table, it should behave as if the whole table was selected,
*not* as if only the know-so-far records were selected. I think this
is what users expect.
If somebody can confirm this issue (I currently can't), please assign
it to oj@openoffice.org.

ok for that, after talking to os and fs i reassigned this to oj.
oliver told me, clicking on the upper left button should be treated as
a different event as selecting single or multiple entrys.
for now selecting record in the dialog automatically selects "Selected
record" in the record "panel". clicking on the upper left button
should be treated like selecting the "ALL" radiobutton in the Record
"panel"

reassigned to oj
set status to new
set target to OOo2.0
