Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 19503
redesign Math formulas fonts selection dialogue
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:54:45 UTC
Hi! ist there a new default text style which makes all text in formulas italic because they currently all become so?
The fonts to be used for formaulas can be set from within Math in the Format/Fonts dialog. Just choose if you like to change the font for variables, numbers, or text (text in double quotes") and change it, in the new dialog there is a checkbox for italic and bold. If you set the modified fonts to be the default all new formulas will use those settings.
ah, I see: but I can't select any fonts: the drop down list is empty
The drop down lists should become font selection fields and there should be tick boxes for italic and bold on this front-end, no need to use a modify command. If you have a font selection object in your framework, a font history might be on top standardly. You should offer buttons for: use fonts for complete formula, start to use fonts from cursor position (if you deem this not unnecessary/unrelevant for a formula) and a tick box/button "make default" so that the selected fonts are used as these categories default on nex start-up.
TL->BH: Request for enhancement. Thus to you.
All the currently under 'Modify' available functions should be available on the opened fonts dialog.
I have seen that the last entry was in October 2003 and that this issue belongs to OOo-1.1RC4. Does the problem also occur in a newer version of OOo (1.1.3, 1.1.4 or 1.9.xx)? If not: Could the original reporter close this issue, please?
can't check the newer versions, but this issue is "started" nevertheless and this is good.

.
The current dialog is by no means intuitive nor does it make changing fonts easy. So a general overhaul would be very appreciated. It's a pain to change more than one font at a time, especially. Also, there is no kind of preview at all. It's taking a lot of time, if a selected font provides for needed special characters. Some thoughts on requirements: - Make it possible to change font for variables, functions, numbers and text separately. - Apply one style to multiple of the aforementioned categories. - Font size and font style are defined in two separate dialogs. Why not actually adapt the general font settings dialog to Math? I imagine the category list on the left and the font and font effects tab on the right. The settings made are applied to the selected elements. What do you think about that?
