Description dubiel 2003-09-16 14:40:41 UTC
It is about documents, where there are no
headers in the first row -- data starts just
in row number 1.

I opened attatched file. Then Data->Filter->AutoFilter.
Answered No. Selected in column A -- 2003-07 -- everything
ok. Then selected 2003-08 -- dropdown lists disappeared!!!

But clicked above A1 exactly on line between ruler and
cell -- and managed to open dropdown list. Chosen All.
Everything looks okey, but dropdown lists don't work.

Hi,

this is not a bug !

What do you expect if choose not to make the first row a column header ?

Excel doesn't even ask you to promote the first row to a column header
it just makes it so. And therefore you maybe get a wrong result from
the autofilter, so the way OOo works is the correct one. It asks and
assumes that you are aware about what you are doing.

So closing invalid.

I expect dropdown lists not to disappear and work correctly.
I expect that after choosing No, there are no column names,
but I can still select records to filter. When you choose that
there are no column titles I don't expect to show for example
'all' 'Top 10' 'Standard' in the first row, but just show data
and button for dropdown list.

I reopen issue, because filter doesn't work properely --
this is bug that dropdown lists are shown (buttons) and
when I click them they don't work.

Also when you assume that the first row is always column
title then don't ask user to decide and then do your own...

Hope now issue is more clearly described by me....

Hi,

I am not convinced that the autofilter in this case has a defect. But
get a comment from the developers.

Niklas ?

Maybe I have mixed two things:

1. DEFECT: dropdown listst in the top row of autofilter
are shown, but I can't select anything from them

2. PROBABLY DEFECT: after selecting something in filter
after choosing No, dropdown lists don't show their
buttons
Comment 7 niklas.nebel 2003-09-19 15:31:32 UTC
Part 2 works as designed: The buttons are shown in the first row, so
if that row is hidden, the buttons are hidden, too.
Part 1 looks wrong, but not overly important. I'll look at that later.

Almost all my friends and workers who I have
installed OO were confused by filtering in OO.
I will explain it better. First see attachment
and choose "2" to filter only rows containing
number "2".

this shows what's issue about
Comment 10 dubiel 2003-12-16 09:12:48 UTC
Now in my opinion there are these defects:

1. Filter's dropdown list disappeared and
   can't choose further filtering

2. OO always shows black frame around
cells which shows what cells are
   selected. But this time frame
   is not visible.

3. OO is not consequent in hiding rows.
After choosing "2" there are only tree
rows visible, because only those fulfil
filter condition. But when we choose
Standard mode and choose to select rows
containing numbers greater than 1000, then
OO hides only rows 1-16, while keeping others
visible. OO should hide all rows. In this
case filter dropdown list and selection
   frame also dissapeared.

If the first row disappears, the arrow disappears too. I would expect it to stay
in the first row, even if the data of the first row is filtered out.

I have a spreadsheet (.ods format) with drop down lists at each column. The filtering has worked without problem - it has been possible to filter several columns simultaneously.
Then last week (4/6/2018) this suddenly stopped working with exactly the same symptoms as described here: Using one drop down list makes all the others to disappear and no further filtering is possible.
The spreadsheet was created using NeoOffice 2017.5 Professional Edition but the same behaviour is seen if I use the spreadsheet in OpenOffice or LibreOffice.
Also if I save the spreadsheet file as an .xlsx document and open it in Microsoft Excel the same behaviour occurs.
