Description sophia 2003-09-28 12:31:47 UTC
I created a Microsoft Word 97 document with the original Office application on
Microsoft Windows 2000 Pro. The document took only 1 page.

Open with OOWriter 1.1 RC5, the same document needed 2 pages. Moreover, I need
to see accuratly this format for professionnal use.

reassigend to mru
can you please take a look on this issue?
set target to OOo later
Comment 5 michael.ruess 2003-09-30 08:37:11 UTC
MRU->AMA: the paragraph following the 2-column section ("ingénieur
informatique") is expanded to two lines. This is insisted due to the
fact, that word measures the paragraph border spacings to the outside,
OO Writer calculates to the inner area. A compatibility mode will be
needed.
Comment 6 michael.ruess 2003-09-30 08:40:47 UTC
retargeted to OO 2.0
Comment 7 sophia 2003-09-30 11:03:59 UTC
I mean this is a key feature.

This (tiny ?) bug discourages all users to jump from Microsoft Word to
OpenOffice Writer.

OOWriter should at least be able to correctly read a Microsoft Word
document. My CV is the smaller MS Word document I use.

Currently, I can't use OpenOffice Writer for professional stuffs. I'm
not the only person which can't use OpenOffice Writer.

Since I have some time now, what could I do in order to fix it ? I
developp in Java for 3 years but I haven't any experience in OO
developpement. Have you identified a component on which I could work ?
Comment 8 andreas.martens 2003-10-01 15:27:08 UTC
We've to suppress the subtraction of the border from the paragraph
area by a compatibility flag.
This flag has to be interpreted in
sw/source/core/layout/calcmove.cxx or in
sw/source/core/layout/frmtool.cxx.
Sophia, do you want to implement and test it?
Comment 9 sophia 2003-10-07 09:13:14 UTC
Ok, I will implement and test it. I can't give a dead line but I will
do it.
Comment 10 sophia 2003-10-27 14:35:19 UTC
I read the same document with Microsoft Word 97 on top of wine (CVS
version) and I got exactly the same layout problem. Could it be a
system dependant problem ?

Can someone give me a clue ?
Comment 11 sophia 2003-11-10 18:09:32 UTC
I just started with this bug. I downloaded the latest developper build
in order to reproduce it with it and I got an other behaviour. This
seems to be related to the layout too.

1.1.1 rc announced Wed 3 Mar 2004
has not the layout problem showed in latest attachement
but the former bug always occurs.

I have not enough time to fix it since I spend all the time I get in searching a
job.
Comment 14 andreas.martens 2004-04-27 09:29:19 UTC
We will need a compatibilty flag (in a later version) to solve this issue.
Comment 15 zefo 2004-04-27 15:14:57 UTC
what a pity.. i think this issue is very important to resolve due to the fact
that it enhances the OOo compatibility w/ ms off. documents quite a lot..

and many ppl expect OOo to be more compatible w/ their doc, xls and ppts..

who should i ask to help w/ this? novell guys??

Everybody is invited to take part on development our OpenOffice.org. So if you
find contributors, fine!
My problem is we have a lot of interoperability issues and a lot of other
features and bugs to do. With our given resources it is not possible to solve
every problem in the next version.
I didn't retarget this issue because I'm not willing to solve it but I'm not
able to solve it for OOo2.0.
Comment 17 sophia 2004-08-08 12:00:16 UTC
always occurs on 1.1.2 version
Comment 18 sophia 2005-10-28 14:24:02 UTC
This bug still live in 2.0 for linux in french version.
Comment 19 aziem 2006-10-01 21:43:17 UTC
The document is still two pages on OOo 2.0.4rc2 Linux and I do have Times New
Roman. (I'm just checking old bugs.)
Comment 20 zefo 2008-11-13 22:43:17 UTC
