Description Unknown 2003-10-07 18:13:38 UTC
I am attempting to install OOo 1.1 RC 3 on Mac OS X, but every time the installation reaches 25%
complete, I get a popup dialog stating that the file crash_report_with_gtk.bin cannot be found. It
tells me to insert the installation disk, which, in this case is the folder that I extracted from the
tar.gz file I downloaded. I have tried d/ling it from numerous mirrors, same problem with each.

Hi martin,
will you have a look?
Comment 2 terryt 2003-10-10 08:38:19 UTC
Added oooqa keyword.

OOo 1.1rc3 for Mac OS X was an unsupported developer
release. Although I never downloaded that release, versions of
OOo 1.1 for Mac OS X that I have built myself worked without
problem.

Versions of OOo 1.1rc4 and OOo 1.1rc5 for Mac OS X have been
posted by various individuals, for testing, but again they are
unsupported.

An official release of OOo 1.1 for Mac OS X is yet to be made.

I am inclined to resolve this as "Works for me".

Current developer versions of OOo 1.1.1 will output a Mac OS X specific error
message (which I don't have handy) asking you to use the standard Mac OS X
CrashReporter features when a crash in OOo occurs, as the
"crash_report_with_gtk.bin" solution used for OOo on other platforms, is not
currently used for Mac OS X (the "crash_report_with_gtk.bin" missing message is
just [supposed to] benign).

What is of more interest is your actual crash - I'm guessing it is a Java
problem. I suggest you might want to try with a later developer version of OOo
1.1.x or install a newer version of Mac OS X and/or Java.

I have changed this bug report's title from "Installation cannot find file
crash_report_with_gtk.bin" to "Installation crashes at 25%", as I believe that
is more meaningful.

Please let us know if this is still a problem. Added "needmoreinfo" keyword.

Kevin, could you help with this?

Hi,

Yes, I agree with Terry, we need more info

1. What system are you using Panther (10.3) or Jaguar (10.2)?

2. What exact version are you trying to install? Where did you get it from?
Or did you build this one yourself?

3. What exactly is the error message (ignore the can't find crash report stuff). What else did it
say? Can you copy down the exact error message and post it here?

4. Bad fonts (fonts with incorrect info in their resources) can kill OOo installation?
Have you installed any extra fonts than what typically comes with MacOSX that might be of
suspect quaility.

5. What version of Java do you have installed (1.3.1 or 1.4.X).
Try in Terminal.app a simple: java -version

You could also try is to run ktrace on the installer (try man ktrace for more info on what options to
set) and then zip up the resulting kttrace.out and post it as an attachment to this issue.

If you are running Panther (MacOSX 10.3) please try with the OOo pre-1.1.1 build that I made
that is available on some of the mirrors. It should have the latest fixes and patches in place.

Hope something here helps,

Kevin

Hi,

I am simply closing this as "works for me". The reporter can simply reopen the report if they so
desire AFTER adding the additional information that was requested.
