Description norbert2 2003-10-17 20:36:03 UTC
There is a button to update the displayed formula. I think the same function
should be available in the edit-field by a short-cut, I suggest CTRl+RETURN.
Because pointing this button with the mouse is slower then waiting for the
automatic update...

TL->BH: To you for decision.
Comment 2 norbert2 2003-10-30 22:42:39 UTC
I found that F9 has this function. But I still think CTRL+RETURN
would be better.
Comment 3 norbert2 2004-05-01 15:52:33 UTC
CTRL+RETURN can be much faster pressed than F9, I think.

(Until I have pressed F9, the formula already has refreshed automatically. :-))

chaning form enhancement to defect.
Steps to reproduce:
0) Open a new math document
1) Choose Tools|Configure and edit the shortcuts
make sure "Math" and not OpenOffice.org is selected now have a look at <F9> it
is set to "update" the formula display
2) Scroll down to ctrl+ return and select View|Update from the availabe functions
and choose the edit button to assign the shortcut to the function.
3) Close the configuration window and write some text into the formula-input box.
Try to update the display using <ctrl>+<enter>, it won't work. Try to update
   using <F9>: works
4) Choose Tools|Configure again and delete the assignment of <F9>. F9 should not
   have any function
5) Write your formula and update the view using <ctrl>+<enter>: still doesn't
work. Try to update the display using <F9>: still works! although not set any
   longer.

note that other keys like <F8> or <ctrl>+1 work as expected, but others like
<ctrl>+<enter> or <ctrl>+<right> won't work.

It seems like <F9> is hard coded and cannot be changed. Therefore bug and not an
enhancement. reassigning to default owner.

Yes, I also think that this is a bug in OO's keyboard configuration. It is
assumed to change e.g. Math's "View/Refresh" from F9 to "Ctrl-Enter", but it
does not work.
Comment 6 carsten.driesner 2004-05-06 07:17:11 UTC
CD: This is hardcoded within the application modules, because it is a
context-dependent shortcut. Our user experience team has't found a solution to
provide a user-friendly dialog which provides context-dependent shortcut
information. It would be overkill for most users. So this problem must be first
solved by our user experience team.
I set this to enhancement as it currently works as designed.

CD->FL: Hi Frank, please take over. We should discuss how we can present
advanced (like context-dependent shortcuts) information to experienced users.

Just to make sure you got me right:

the problem is not that the <F9> cannot be disabled (I filed a f'up issue 28836
for that).

The real problem is that you cannot define additional shortcuts for this
function. To be more precise: Some key-combos work, some won't! So I cannot
really understand why this is an enhancement..

Why does <F8> or <ctrl>+1 work to update the view, while <ctrl>+<enter> won't work?
Comment 9 jack.warchold 2004-08-31 11:05:21 UTC
changed issuetype to defect
confirmed on OOo1.1.2
because now F9 can bedisabled and reset to an other key-shortcut it
should be possible to reassing the refresh function to any other
shortcut. please think about this.
