Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 21714
Superscript and Subscript are not working when set to automatic
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:38:22 UTC
The steps to reproduce the problem are: 1) Create a slide in the Presentation component 2) Enter some text 3) Highlight one or more of the characters 4) Select (Format->Character) OR (right click->Character) 5) In the position tab, select Superscript OR Subscript 6) Press OK The expected result is that the position of the highlighted characters will change to represent superscript or subscript depending on the selection. The actual result is that nothing happens. The problem can be avoided by deselecting the check box "Automatic" in the Position tab. Unfortunately this might lead to inconsistency throughout a presentation created by a user due to the lack of an established default value.
Reassigned to Christian.
I can reproduce the bug when I change the 'Relative font size' to 100%. This behaviour is ok because the 'Automatic' setting prevent that the supperscript/subscript text is beyond the upper or lower 'Text border'. Would the supperscript/subscript text be beyond the text border the line spacing would change and this would be prevented with the 'Automatic' setting.
I see. Then probably the problem is in the box at the bottom in the position tab that shows how the text would look like after a change. When relative font size is set to 100%, selecting superscript/subscript radio buttons changes the display of the letters in that box. If you press Ok, it doesn't change them in practice.
I think changing the preview is a feature and not a bug. Please have a look.

Why is this bug open and unconfirmed for nine years? It is my impression that the suggested feature works in recent OOo versions, so please close this issue as Worksforme
