Word-docs: Does not open Office files correctly
Last modified: 2003-11-12 13:42:20 UTC
MS Word files with embedded jpegs are incompletely opened. The first page and the last will show, but nothing else.

I can´t open the file, which seems to be due to a faulty file but not a problem with OOo. Has this file been created in MS Word or is it simply a html-file that you have opened in Word or retyped its file name from *.html to *.doc? When you´ve made sure it is a genuine Word file, please attach it again, this time choose Binary file (application/octet-stream) as file type.
I attach the doc file again which the reporter has sent to me by private mail. It looks like to two page Word doc file, and its two pages open fine in OOo. I can't tell whether there are any missing pages. See also the attached sreenshot which shows the end of the first and the beginning of the second page, which contains one text line only. pgharris, is there a URL where we can download the original from, for comparing? Thanks.

New file is NOT a proper Word document. It is a webpage. I have examined it in both WordXP and OOo and in both cases it shows a webpage and not as a document. THe key is the table. As we all know OOo does not do tables all that well and having two table cells one of which spans multiple pages is a recipe for problems. When properly formatted either as a webpage or when the contents are inserted into a text doc, OOo handles the file well.

The content of the attached file was copied/pasted from a Web page. It resides in one large table cell. Currently Writer is not able to handle table cells larger than one page. This will be solved for OO 2.0 (see issue 2109). As a workaround, when opened the file in OO, place cursor on page one, goto "Tools.Text <-> Table" and click "OK" in the appearing dialog. This will make your content being displayed now. *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 2109 ***
