Description stx123 2003-11-26 09:48:25 UTC
Searching in mailing lists leads shows the error "Text search not available for
this list" (users@, cvs@test).
Comment 1 kerry 2003-11-26 22:00:35 UTC
Opened internal issue PCN 24338 to investigate. Adding tracking info
to whiteboard.

Stefan,

Are you searching within the mailing list itself or using the domain-
wide search and getting this result?
Comment 3 stx123 2003-12-01 21:41:54 UTC
See the URL provided in this issue:
I guess this means "in the list".
Comment 4 jobin1 2003-12-01 21:51:29 UTC
one more clarification - just cvs? or cvs AND users?
Comment 5 jobin1 2003-12-01 21:55:37 UTC
let me explain - we added an option to remove indexing on cvs mailing
lists. Other Sun sites (NB) requested this. INdexing the cvs@ list
can be turned on in a configuration option. However, searching the
users@ mailing list should work.
Comment 6 jobin1 2003-12-01 21:59:19 UTC
i just tested myself on users@ and discuss@. something is not working
correctly. taking back issue for troubleshooting
Comment 7 stx123 2003-12-01 22:02:47 UTC
Thanks for your testing.
Is there an UI for the configuration option?
Comment 8 jobin1 2003-12-02 01:59:32 UTC
The UI is in the Host Admin configuration panel.

The 1.1.3 mailing list search indexes will not initially be migrated.
Mail list searching will work with all new posts to the exsting
mailing lists in 2.6.2. Engineering discussed the problem of large
index migration in detail in the 2003-10-09 status meeting.
Providing the indexes for the old mailing lists will remain an open
issue for resolution after site migration.

Comment 10 stx123 2003-12-02 11:10:34 UTC
Looking at the meeting minutes I read, that
"= however, existing mailing list archives will be searchable from
within the mailing list tool".
Comment 11 stx123 2003-12-02 11:11:06 UTC
reassigning to steve
Comment 12 jobin1 2003-12-02 21:41:06 UTC
Yes, I read the same passage and it is incorrect. Engineering
discussed the problem of large index migration - "We've moved the
existing (huge) mbox files to a location where they won't be
indexed..." and how it remains to be fixed after site migration.

Providing the indexes for the old mailing lists will remain an open
issue for resolution after site migration
Comment 13 stx123 2003-12-05 10:23:22 UTC
reopen for handling after migration
Comment 14 jobin1 2003-12-06 21:11:54 UTC
assiging to CN support
Comment 15 kerry 2003-12-12 06:24:30 UTC
Per CollabNet Engineering, this is not an issue:

1. users@test is working, others do too. I couldn't find any list where search
   doesn't work.
2. cvs@ lists are not indexed anymore, which is a one-off requested by Ooo. I
assume that this was communicated to support.

Resolving as "worksforme". Please reopen if there is still a problem.
Comment 16 stx123 2003-12-12 15:31:22 UTC
verified and closing
Comment 17 stx123 2004-02-09 09:28:00 UTC
There are lists for which search doesn't work, one is dev@tools.
Search for the subject "guidelines" in the list dev@tools does not work.
The result is "Text search not available for this list".
