Description scagni 2003-11-27 10:19:42 UTC
When you edit somewhat large documents, like Impress presentations with more
than 40 pages with a lot of ole objects, or spreadsheets with a dozen tabs with
many graphics, data and formulas, the program frequently (but not always!)
refuses to save the file giving a "file save failed. General i/o error" message.
ATTENTION: This happens ONLY when saving in native xml format. In fact, the
workaround I use at present is as follows:
1- When a modified sxc or sxi files refuses to be saved, save it as a
Staroffice5 document instead; this gives no problem and always works;
2- close the xml format document without saving it, reopen it again, keeping the
SO5 format document open as well;
3- copy all you've added or modified before the problem from the SO5 updated
version of the file, and paste it in the previous version of the xml file;
4- save the xml file again: this time it will not give the error message again.
After this, you are tipically able to make some changes (varying in number and
relevance, say about 3-4 savings on average) to the xml document and save the
file regularly; after a while, however, the error message will appear again and
the above workaround will be necessary again.
This happens both on WinXP AND win98 machines.
I am not sure whether the problem was present on 1.0 release too, since I used
to save all files in SO5 then, and I switched to the native format only with OO1.1.

First remark: according to the rules this is a P2 issue, not a P1.
But anyway, it is already known and will be fixed in OOo1.1.1

Bug is fixed in the build OOo1.1.1a.
