Having frozen panes in a spreadsheet window the "marquee" around the currently
selected cell is not visible in the pane that is scrollable if you have frozen
columns.  If you have frozen rows only, the problem is not present. This was not
a problem in OO 1.0.x, and doesn't seem to effect sheets that had panes frozen
using the earlier version. It has just occured to me that I should specify that
the sheets are saved in Excel format

Sorry, what is marquee? Do we talk about the cell cursor? Anyway, there was a
problem with frozen panes exported to Excel, please have a look at issue 20671.
Does this issue cover your problem?

Hi daeroncs,

to decide the further handling of this issue I need some more information. Can
you please contribute a step by step instruction (starting with "1. open new
spreadsheet" or similar)?

Should be fixed with one of the latest fixes. Please retry with the latest build.
