Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 23353
improved HTML export bits ...
Last modified: 2007-08-10 11:36:45 UTC
Hi there, These 3 patches bin the painful gallery stuff from the HTML export; they also switch from GIF -> PNG and set the default to JPEG, to please Debian / modern web-people. Finally we add a new description file; this goes hand-in-hand with a new set of nicer (alpha) png web-nav artwork which would be nice to up-stream. It's likely this will need some re-factoring, however the gallery made this area totally impossible for us to patch in an open/meaningful fashion, which was nastily painful. Comments appreciated.

I do not think that this is a defect, following the description.... Reassigned to Christian. Please handle.
where can I have a look at the new png web-nav artwork? Also, is PNG already something most of todays in-use webbrowsers can display? I'm much in favor of dropping gif though
The new artwork is here: http://primates.ximian.com/~michael/images
Christian J., I really like the new icons. Is it ok for user expirience and marketing to drop the gifs and require a browser that supports png? I think this is a good issue for a blopper also. Please give feedback and return issue to me. Also, do we need any signed permission to integrate mmeeks artwork inside OOo?
of course - every OO.o can import pngs itself; so in fact when we write the images out they go out either as JPEG or PNGs depending on the user's selection, so we are not relying on PNG support in the browser for the navigation icons. FWIW - when this patch gets in, I have a larger / more fun feature inspired by the magic point patch in a half-done state requiring advice so ... ;-)
And I forgot to say - all the artwork (and code) was done in-house at Ximian, and is hereby submitted under our JCA assignment :-)
CJ->CL: From my point of view we shall proviede the following export format PNG, GIF & JPG (PNG as default). Regarding the new images: I really like them, but the Gorilla style is in my opinion too Ximian like. For this reason I propose to add simple/ square-blue square-green square-grey square-red square-yellow
Ok; this seems good - of course, we'd like to be able to continue to patch the theme file to add our gorilla (or whatever) icons in; so - really dropping the gratuitous gallery usage would still be much appreciated - gallery files are totally un-patchable.
guess its time to work a bit on our html export before it gets rusty...
So - the latest versions of these patches are at: http://go-oo.org/ooo-build/patches/src680/ there is a known bug - if you export as JPG with the new artwork - we don't re-color the background of the navigation icons; also rumour has it that the 'insensitive' icons at beginning/end of the show don't show up properly. Also - I guess there is a performance issue to loading these navigation icons individually not present with the gallery - so, perhaps [ if it's going to go up-stream ] we need to just whack them into the existing gallry & not apply those changes. Finally, talking to Lutz - ideally the wizard would have as set of point & click templates on the front page & one could create the show with many fewer clicks - but of course; as soon as this gets near a UI spec. the pain / delay / demands prolly become unbearable :-)
I looked into this and I decided to put the images for one button theme into a zipfile and place that zipfile somewhere in config path. Then add an xml configuration file where you can add and remove button themes. I have this nearly finished but due to the problems with warnings01 integration I will not make it to 2.0.4 feature freeze *sic* Therefore retargeting again
cl - nice: is your patch somewhere ? in a CWS ?
Not yet working Mr. Meeks, please stay tuned
Any progress on this one? It would be really nice if PNG export would make into 2.0.x or next release that's going out. I could really use it in my project.
changing target to next feature release so I don't forget this again and again *sic*. Yes blame me, only my fault
Howdy. I leeched the artwork from: http://primates.ximian.com/~michael/images A great improvement on the current images +1. Two points on the 'simple' style: 1. '-bottom' and '-down' images are the same. I've fixed that (see attached). 2. Simple is the only style missing the '-disk' icon... So I've done my usual and losslessly compressed the pngs (attached), taking particular care to use png-types that are most widely supported (at the cost of compression). There is also a test html file included- works fine on Firefox 2 and MS IE v7. Stats: Meeks' 194 > 163kb, Current (htmlexpo) 51.2 > 29.6kb. Now my two cents: - Since the worst offender for png support was MS IE, has now been greatly fixed up in v7, I see no reason to continue to work with gifs as standard. - The very dated and technically poor quality images currently in OOo ('www-graf' & 'htmlexpo') should be removed. They add nothing but show the rougher edges of the product. - I would love to see these images fully replaced by the set from Meeks. Also, as an aside: does it make sense for these graphics to appear in the gallery? - I agree the 'gorilla' theme is very Ximian. However, I believe it would be a popular choice with many users, since it works well with blue backgrounds (such as the template 'Dark blue with Orange'). Maybe it could also be included? Cheers, Andrew Wow- just noticed the date 2003 8-0 ....

CL, please don't forget to take care of this task in time...
ok, I didn't apply the patch but I added support for png. I also changed the code not to load the buttons from the gallery but to scan the directories config/wizard/web/buttons in either share oder user directory for *.zip files containing 12 png images. Those are displayed in the publishing dialog as preview and later also used for export. Since they are also exported as png we now have alpha so I also removed the old code to smooth the graphics depending on the background color. Not I only have to write a spec....
