There is no joining for some fonts on the open office. I can mention the Arial
font availble in the sourceforge for example

please provide a sample document and an according screenshot that show the
problem. With what version of OpenOffice did you test ?

Closing. If the problem reoccurs even after the fix for issue 27689 is
integrated please reopen.
