Description maryt 2003-12-30 00:25:58 UTC
I am able to select and copy graphic images from the Mozilla Browser and paste
into Open Office Writer but not into Open Office Presentation and/or Drawing.
I've found that the work around is to then select the pasted image in Write and
copy and paste it into Presentation and/or Drawing. Otherwise I'm required to
save the image onto my hard drive and later insert the image into my
presentation slide, which takes longer and is inefficient to do.

When will this feature -- copying a graphic from the browser and pasting it into
a presentation slide in Open Office Write -- be available in Presentation and/or
Drawing?

Please give a detailed step by step description of what you are doing. When I
copy'n'paste pictures from mozilla I only get the URL in Writer and Impress. But
this works with dragging the picture from konqueror. Thanks.

Reassigned to Christian.
Comment 3 wolframgarten 2004-01-05 09:47:19 UTC
Sorry, the last assignement was wrong, taking this back.
Comment 4 wolframgarten 2004-01-15 09:55:59 UTC
Here I can only reproduce the following: Drag and drop from Konqueror brings the
graphic to writer and impress. Drag and drop from mozilla only brings URL text.
changing this to defect.

Reassigned to Thorsten. Please have a look.
Comment 6 maryt 2004-02-03 05:25:27 UTC
This is in response to your request to give a detailed step by step description
of what you I am doing to copy and paste from the Mozilla Browser into Writer to
get the image...greatest apologies for not responding sooner to your request:

-- select the image on the screen in Mozilla Browser 1.4 with the mouse by left
clicking the mouse and slide across the image (I am not able to simply right
click and copy the image like I did in Windows).

-- then I either Ctrl+C 'n Paste, or Edit->Copy 'n Paste the image into Writer.

This works for Writer, but notfor Presentation or Drawing. I am using
OpenOffice V.1.1.0.

System: Linux 2.4.26 i686 Intel Celeron 766MHz 128MB RAM
Mozilla 1.7.5, OpenOffice.org 1.1.0

Test 1:
Step 1:	In Mozilla :
         - Left-click & drag across image
      	   Edit -> Copy

Step 2:	In OpenOffice Writer:
         - Edit -> Paste => Image pasted properly
         - Edit -> Paste Special -> Selection: Unformatted text => error message:
         The image "http://orange.cc.ny.us/biology/art/water.jpg" cannot be
displayed, because it contains errors.
         - Edit -> Paste Special -> Selection: HTML(HyperText Markup Language)
=> Image pasted properly

   	In OpenOffice  Presentation:
         - Edit -> Paste => error message: The image
"http://orange.cc.ny.us/biology/art/water.jpg" cannot be displayed, because it
contains errors.
         - Edit -> Paste Special -> Selection: Unformatted text => error
message: The image "http://orange.cc.ny.us/biology/art/water.jpg" cannot be
displayed, because it contains errors.
         - Edit -> Paste Special -> Selection: HTML(HyperText Markup Language)
=> No reaction

  	In OpenOffice Drawing:
         - Edit -> Paste => A tiny rectangle appears but it is transparent(no
fill) & no border/line around it
         - Edit -> Paste Special -> Selection: Unformatted text => error
message: The image "http://orange.cc.ny.us/biology/art/water.jpg" cannot be
displayed, because it contains errors.

        In OpenOffice Spreadsheet:
         - Edit -> Paste -> No reaction
         - Edit -> Paste Special -> Selection: Unformatted text => error
message: The image "http://orange.cc.ny.us/biology/art/water.jpg" cannot be
displayed, because it contains errors.

Test 2:
Step 1:	In Mozilla :
         - Open image by itself with browser
           Edit -> Select all
      	   Edit -> Copy

Step 2:
       as above => same results

Test 3:
       Use Ctrl+C & Ctrl+V instead of menues => same results

Test 4:
       For all OpenOffice applications (including Writer): dragging & dropping
the image from Mozilla to the applications caused the following message to be
displayed
      <img alt="The image
&ldquo;http://orange.cc.ny.us/biology/art/water.jpg&rdquo; cannot be displayed,
because it contains errors." src="http://orange.cc.ny.us/biology/art/water.jpg">

System: Windows XP Professional Intel Pentium 4 2.53GHz 512MB RAM
Netscape 7.1, OpenOffice.org 1.1.4

Test 1, Test 2 & Test 3:
       Results as above with one difference: instead of the error message the
application did not react at all

Test 4:
       Dragging & Dropping the image from Netscape to the applications:
             OpenOffice Writer: image displayed properly
             OpenOffice Draw: image displayed properly
             OpenOffice Presentation: only URL location of image displayed, no image
             OpenOffice Spreadsheet: only URL location of image displayed, no image

Test 5:
       - Copy & Pasting from Paint to OpenOffice Writer using any method worked
properly
       - Edit -> Copy/Paste or Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V from Paint to OpenOffice Draw &
OpenOffice Presentation made a rectangle with white fill an no line around it appear
       - Edit -> Paste Special in OpenOffice Draw & OpenOffice Presentation gave
3 Selection options:
             - Selection: Bitmap Image => white rectangle with no line around it
             - Selection: GDI metafile => image displayed properly
             - Selection: Bitmap => image displayed, but scaled down (smaller
than its real size)

Test 6:
       - Copy & Pasting from Adobe Photoshop 5.5 using any method to any
OpenOffice application worked properly

This was replicated using OOo1.1.4 on Windows XP, with both Mozilla v 1.0 and
Internet Explorer 6.0. Both web browsers had the same results on both
presentation and draw.

An additional note, the bug was replicated when an image is highlighted and
then use shortcuts to copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl+ V). This however does
not occur if you right click on the image and copy then paste it. This also
does not occur if you use the menu. Further testing shows that the main effect
is with the copying itself. Using right click to copy and then Ctrl + V to
paste will paste correctly.
Comment 12 zannelli 2005-02-04 18:32:00 UTC
I tried to replicate the failure both on a linux machine (OO 1.1.0) and on a
windows XP machine (OO 1.1.3).

On the linux machine when I tried to paste the image
http://orange.cc.ny.us/biology/art/water.jpg and also others images copied from
Mozilla, Netscape and Konquero Browser I didn't receive the error, but in the
document appear an empty box.

Instead on the Windows Xp machine all worked right.
Comment 13 ammadaleem 2005-02-04 18:59:42 UTC
I was able to replicate the bug with Open Office 1.1 and Mozilla on a Linux OS
and with Open Office 1.4 and Mozilla on a Windows XP OS. Here is a detailed
series of steps that can be used to replicate the bug:

1 – Open up an Open Office text document, a presentation, a drawing and a
Mozilla window pointed to some on line image.
2 – Cut the image in Mozilla window by first selecting it with a mouse and then
using Ctrl-C. Make sure to cut using Ctrl-C.
3 – Paste the image onto each of the writer, the presentation and the drawing
using Ctr-V. Make sure to paste using Ctrl-V. The image would get pasted onto
the writer but it would fail to paste onto the drawing and the presentation.

Further testing shows that:

With Open Office 1.1 on Linux: Cutting and Pasting with a keyboard, from a
Mozilla browser window fails for presentation , drawing and spreadsheet but
succeeds for text document.

With Open Office 1.1 on Linux: Dragging an image from a Mozilla browser window
fails for presentation , drawing, spreadsheet and text document.

With Open Office 1.4 on XP: Cutting and Pasting with a keyboard, from a Mozilla
browser window fails for presentation , drawing and spreadsheet but succeeds for
text document.

With Open Office 1.4 on XP: Cutting and Pasting with a mouse, from a Mozilla
browser window fails for presentation , drawing and spreadsheet but succeeds for
text document.

With Open Office 1.4 on XP: Dragging an image from a Mozilla browser window
succeeds for presentation and drawing and fails for spreadsheet and text document.

@cl: could you have a look at this clipboard issue, please?
Comment 15 el_cameleon 2009-10-02 08:28:53 UTC
The bug is still there in Open Office 3.0 (with Ubuntu 9.04). As it works for
Writer, there is no reason to explain why it doesn't for Calc and Impress. Hope
it will be fix soon...
Comment 16 lazenguy 2013-08-19 23:26:12 UTC
This confirmed bug has caused me to switch back to AOO 3.4.1, and I do not see a date for the fix in the AOO 4.0.1 work list. This item should be an absolute priority as it only fixes functionality available in the prior release (3.4.1). The operating system was Windows 7.
Comment 17 W2 2013-09-24 12:50:58 UTC
Upgrading to 4.0.0 has made this problem pop up again for me such that I can no longer copy images from Firefox to Impress files -- when I paste the images onto the Impress template, all I see are black boxes. However, copying from Chrome seems to work.
