Description selendar 2003-12-30 15:58:44 UTC
I have played with OOo Draw to see whether it is a good tool to create eps
files. One big issue which I see with it is that it tries to convert any text in
the drawing to lines - presumably to become independent of the chosen font etc.
I did not find an option that allows me to export text as text.

The first thing I found was that this export does not work; submitted as a
separate issue (bug).

My wish would be to have text exported as text, including the necessary fonts. I
have seen other "mature" applications try to export text as graphics, and in my
experience that is the road to perdition - none could handle all test cases
well, there were indices moved around at random etc etc.

In a text-containing eps file, one can at least repair the exported file
directly by editing the text.

In an eps file where text has been exported as graphics, that is not possible.
My only choice is to throw away OOo and use something else. And yes, the eps
export feature is the one crucial thing that I rely on. But, OOo's eps export
does not work for me. It would be very sad if a good tool like this were
hampered by such a petty problem. Please correct the text handling in eps files.

Thank you very much for all the effort!

this issue seems still true. It is impossible to select text in text format in
the resulting EPS file.
