Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 25345
Using CSV and TXT files as External Data
Last modified: 2004-02-11 14:29:03 UTC
If you search issuezilla for "External Data" related to spreadsheet then you get a huge number of issues which is all marked as duplicate because it is "not a bug but a feature" (someone must have talked with a Microsoft helpdesk supporter). But many users and my customers and me included see "Insert -> External Data" as a way to insert external CSV and TXT data. So I want to see that this will be possible in the future - a very popular enhancement. You can get more background on this issue by looking at issue 1834. One of the difference between opening a CSV file and using the "Insert -> External Data" is the possibility to update the data every specified seconds.
If this issue becomes WONTFIX then I will suggest that the text in the dialogbox tells that it only supports HTML-tables, named ranges in Calc or Excel sheets, so users doesn't get the idea that they also can use CVS as external data. Maybe changing the name of the menu item so it doesn't get the impression that it also can be used for CSV data files.
Hi, you mentioned Issue 1834 which deals exactly with the problem you describe here. So this Issue is absolutly double and I close it as such as Falko is working on it for OOo2.0. Frank *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 1834 ***
