Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 25855
Copy multiple seperated rows
Last modified: 2017-05-20 10:20:17 UTC
In "that other" Spreadsheet program, I have the ability to copy multiple seperated rows, and paste them in a new sheet (or where ever). For instace, I can click on row 2 and row 4, hit Ctrl+C and it will grab the data. However, in OO's Spreadsheet, I get the following error message: "This function cannot be used with multiple selections." I've started a thread on this: http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=23097 ...and it was suggested to file an enhancement request. This happens on both Win32 and Linux/Gnome installs. Thanks, DB
Hi Bettina, one for you. Frank
Just another issue I ignored as "Something other spreadsheet programs can do but OOo cannot." I should have filed an issue about it a year ago. It IS a problem and does cause a lot of extra "workaround" work, esepcially if there are formulas referencing the values.
This feature would be great, a lot of my spreadsheets involve cut and pasting between sheets.
Yes, one financial team colleague complain that SO/OOo should add this feature since multi-row copy is very convenient to daily work.
The issue is more general than copying multiple rows. Selecting multiple cells won't copy either. My guess is that selecting non-connected cells disable copying/cutting/pasting. I think it's an important issue.
Dear all, I am converting some of my clients from MS to OOo and this enhancement is one of they are complaining at. Can someone tell me in which version this will be added? Thank you

Dear developers, any chance of implementing this RFE? Judging by votes it seems to be in demand.

Hi Niklas, these RFEs are in your ownership.
Such an old problem and it's of enhancement type yet :( But this ability is really important. Several colleagues of mine complain about this problem. Usually they need to copy separated cells from one row to paste them to another as one block, not separated. BTW, there is a grammatical error in Summary of this issue.
Wow, I love how every now and then I get an email on this to remind me it's still open....I can't believe it's been almost 4 years, and still new to report. O'well, I'm sure they'll get to it some year. P.S. It's a spelling error, not a grammatical error ;-)
More precisely, non contiguous cell selection didn't work for copy & paste.
Cette fonctionnalité est trés importante pour mes utilisateurs. Notre projet de migration s'en trouve grandement affecté ! C'est dommage.
This issue is important and listed on the quarterly review for Calc: http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/2008_Q2_Review_of_Spreadsheet_Project Therefore adjusting target to 3.x.
This enhancement would be génial (very very NICE)

A draft patch is now in go-oo. http://svn.gnome.org/viewvc/ooo-build/trunk/patches/dev300/calc-multi-range-copy-paste.diff?revision=15468&view=markup I'm still in the process of testing it.

I'm grabbing this since I've already started working on it.
accepted.

Hm. A lot of duplication there. The more obvious approach would be to build upon the "filtered rows" handling and skip non-selected columns/rows.
The reason for duplication is to avoid breaking the existing simple copy-n-paste, which is a very common operation and should not be broken. What I am trying to do is to keep the code paths for the normal copy and multi-range copy separate, but identify duplicated code blocks and turn them into methods to share between the two code paths. We should probably merge the filtered row copy and multi-range copy functionality into one, but I'd prefer to use the multi-range copy code to implement the filtered row copy, not the other way around.
BTW, the duplication is at least initial. As we integrate this piece we can do more aggressive duplication removal.

When I copy a combination cell and paste it on a combination cell, I would like to paste it in the state that chose plural cells. ※When not only consecutive cells but also a place includes the remote cell.
Spec for this feature is now available: http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Calc/Features/Multi-range_copy_and_paste Setting target for 3.2 (assuming that I still haven't missed the feature freeze...)
@marines: please file a separate feature request for that one. It's not going to be implemented as part of this feature, at least not initially.
Ok. I've finished all I had planned to do. Setting this fixed in koheimultirangecopy cws.
re-assigning to oc for qa verification.
marines : have a look to issue 88306[1], similar one. [1] http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=88306
FYI (since someone privately asked me of the status), three more issues have been filed that were blocking this issue. They all have been fixed, and the cws is now back to QA once again.
verified in internal build cws_koheimultirangecopy
This is one of the top 5 things I use a spreadsheet for every day with Excel - I am praying for 3.2 to have this
Please check whether following issues have been fixed with this one: Issue 26329, Issue 110908
The problem still exists. If we try to copy from two different cells which is not in the same row or column. For e.g.: if we try to copy from C1 and D2 Open Office will raise the error 'This function cannot be used with multiple selection'. Whereas if we copy from C1 and C6 or D1 and G1 it will work fine.
