Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 25942
standard date format not taken from the system properties
Last modified: 2008-08-20 22:31:15 UTC
Hi, I am using the "DD.MM.YYYY" as short date format on my w2k computer. Entering a date e.g. "27.03." into a calc cell with SO 5.2 changes it to automatically to "23.03.2004" With S0 7.0 the standard date format does not change ... it's always "DD.MM.YY" .... Same happens with writer if you insert the field command date ... Is it a bug or a new feature ? regards Oliver
Hi, this is not a bugreport but an support request. Such questions are answered on the mailing lists, especially users@... I've checked it both with SO5.2 and OOo1.1.1, in both cases the same result 23.03.04. Frank

Hi, I will create an attachment ... cause all other language settings are taken from the system ... regards Oliver
Created attachment 13599 [details] demo file for date format
Hi Oliver, nothing is taken from the system. All comes out of the internationalization framework. So this is a new feature introduced since SO6. Frank
reopening because there is no possibility to set the date format according to the system settings by default. Only way is to change it in the source code and compile it by yourself. Frank
Hi Bettina, using SO5.2 we are able to use the system settings for the date format. Starting with SO6 this was changed, starting with this version this setting was not taken from the system anymore. So we lost a bit of usability. Thew decission was made to do so, so I flag this one as enhancement. Frank

If it isn't possible, that OOo uses the date-format of the system there must be the possibility to determine this in the optionmenu. German: Extras-Optionen-Spracheinstellungen-Sprachen.
What's about my last comment. It's irritating to change the dateformat every time you insert a date in a document. BTW, I know there is a macro to do this. But this is no final solution for me.
Change issuetype from enhancement to defect. Using the system date format or setting a default date format is a normal requirement to a office software.
Whats about this issue. It concerns all modules of OOo not only the spreadsheet. I would prefer the manual setting of the standard date format.
