Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 26142
WW8: export adds obsolete tab stop at 0 cm in unnumbered Heading paragraphs
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:18:00 UTC
Word paragraph styles altered when saving in OOo Saving a Word 97/98 format document to the same format from within OOo changes paragraph styles. These changes *are not visible* from within OOo, and may only be viewed with Word. (I only have access to Word 97/98, someone please check if this happens with Word 2000/XP/etc.) Steps to Reproduce: 1. Generate file using Word 97/98 containing text in default Heading 4 style 2. Open using OOo 1.1 3. Save to original .doc format, with same or different filename 4. Re-open in Word 97/98 to view Frequency: All the time Expected Behavior: Original formatting should remain the same. Actual Behavior: Formatting appears the same in OOo, but is clearly changed when viewing the doc using Word 97/98. Specifics: ----- 1. A tab is inserted at the start of the paragraph. 2. A tab is set at 0 cm with left alignment. 3. Line width is subtly changed, visible on my screen as a roughly one-pixel narrowing. Examining paragraph properties for both documents in Word, however, shows no clear difference in format settings...? 4. Numbering is turned on, though no numbers or bullets precede the paragraph. ----- There may be other changes introduced; these are only the ones I was able to find myself. I will attach a zip with two small Word files demonstrating the changes wrought.
Created attachment 13583 [details] Two .doc files, showing results of pre- and post-OOo saving on Heading 4 paragraph style.

Created attachment 13585 [details] Two .doc files, showing results of pre- and post-OOo saving on Heading 4 paragraph style.
Forgive the multiple attachments, I kept getting server errors on my end.
Add a specific: ----- 5. In Word, on the Format -> Paragraph -> Line and Page Breaks tab, "Don't hyphenate" is turned on. -----
Please try using the latest OpenOffice 1.1.1 , you can download it from http://download.openoffice.org/1.1.1/index.html many bug fixes and enhancements since your version and 1.1.1 . If the problem still happend in 1.1.1 please report back. It maybe not yet solve your Issue, but it worth to try.

MRU->MM: that's true. when exporting the WW created doc again to doc, an additional Tab at 0cm will be visible in the Heading4 paragraph.
After many a moon, I am now back in an office where I can use OOo. I now have OOo 1.1.2 and Word 2000 SP3, and am re-examining my old OOo issues to see what changes have taken place. Looking back at the old specifics, > ----- > 1. A tab is inserted at the start of the paragraph. > 2. A tab is set at 0 cm with left alignment. > 3. Line width is subtly changed, visible on my screen as a roughly one-pixel > narrowing. Examining paragraph properties for both documents in Word, however, > shows no clear difference in format settings...? > 4. Numbering is turned on, though no numbers or bullets precede the > paragraph. > 5. In Word, on the Format -> Paragraph -> Line and Page Breaks tab, "Don't > hyphenate" is turned on. > ----- all of these are still in evidence. I did discover, however, that #1 only happens if the original Word doc paragraph has an indent on the left, regardless of whether the indent is part of the style or manually added. As the symptoms are identical, I will not be attaching sample files unless someone requests that I do so.
