Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 26329
non-contiguous copy/paste
Last modified: 2015-08-12 18:29:51 UTC
Excel has a copy paste function where seperate sections within a column/row or adjacent columns/rows can be selected then copied and pasted missing out the non-selected cells so that when pasted the selected cells move together leaving no gaps. The attached file shows the end result of this. I don't know how many people use this facility in Excel but in my field (scientific research) it gets used a lot and I know people who won't use OOo as a result. Science is an area where opensource software makes inroads and it would be good to have this feature. Please note that I am not asking for any cells from allover a spreadheet to be selctable but to be able to paste groups of cells missing out certain parts of row or columns.

Hi Bettina, would be a nice feature. Frank

This feature is not implemented in 2.4, I have updated the version above to reflect this. I still consider it an important feature, certainly within my profession (biological research) and I would have thought much more widely. Excel has had this feature since at least Office 2000 and probably earlier. In fact I commented on the lack of it in the OOforums again just recently. To the best of my knowledge it hasn't been implemented in the 3.0 betas but I will double check.
I confirm that: + (1) this still is a major requirement even outside the biology industry -- I'm in plain IT business and use it from Excel very regularly, like I did in the engineering/manufacturing industry previously, and that + (2) it's not yet implemented in 3.0 BETA either. Sigh. Now *THAT* would have been a major enhancement (though only catching up on MS Excel on that feature).
I believe this has been fixed with Issue 25855

Yes, it appears that version 3.2 now has non-contiguous copy and paste and it appears to work as I would expect. Certainly http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Calc/Features/Multi-range_copy_and_paste is exactly what I was hoping. It's been a long, but thanks! As far as I am concerned you can close this issue.
As of comment 9 this issue is resolved since OOo 3.2.
