Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 26414
Need to allow captions to be left/right of object
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:41:21 UTC
Particularly for equations, this would be very handy.... Although it is possible to do via inserting an equation into a 2 colum table and placing a reference to the right or left, this should be automatic. The kludge I currently use is to cut and paste a table to the next section I see as important, but after doing so with 40-50 equations in a paper its a bit of a mess... On the lighter side, the equation writer rocks... Now if it just would be fully MathML compliant...
moving component to "formula editor"
This is a caption issue in an sxw document, it is not the formula editors issue....
OOo comes with an autoText that is handy to number formulas (type "fn<F3>") this may be sufficient for your problem - either use the predefined AutoText or create a new one) The field that is used to count the items can be inserted using Insert|Fields->other->variables->number range, you can use them in your AutoText. The insert|caption function doesn't do anything else than either link (set keep with next/previous) a paragraph to a table (to number tables) or put a frame around the object, it uses the same variables. So create an entry with the layout you would like (preferably use character styles to format the text) and add the field. After you have selected the text, use Edit|AutoText to create a new one. I will confirm this issue. see similar issue 24445

OO.o 2.0 release still cannot position caption to left/right of object. Even target milestone not set for this simple(?) issue. Any ideas?
