Description norbert2 2004-03-24 18:48:14 UTC
If I enter for example "1.875" into a cell, "1.88" is displayed.

Excel displays "1.875", like I have entered it. Excel Standard-cell format shows
up to 9 digits after the decimal point, which suit good to the default cell-width.

Why don't you do so in Calc? For example in technical calculations, 2 digits
after decimal point are not enough.
In Calc I have to switch the number-format for many cells in order to have
enough digits after decimal point.

The way Excel handles this (up to 9 digits after decimal point) is much more
userfriendly.

Please fix this.

Hi,

this is a double to Issue 22345. Please have a look at the specification
mentioned there.

Also it's possible change the default numberformat for a document by simply
editing the default cell style using the Stylist (F11). To do so for every new
document change this cellstyle and save the document as default template.

Also this is just a view of the values used in the cell and Calc is mainly used
in business environments, such companys are using mainly two decimals. Also the
calculation itself is done by using all places of the number except you have set
the option 'Precision as shown' under Tools-Options-Spreadsheet-Calculate.

Frank:
I think with "business environments" you think abou calculating with money. But
in Excel the user has only to press the buttin with the currency-icon (german:
Eurozeichen) to get 2 digits after decimal point.

I think this is the smarter solution. Please re-consider to adopt this.

I just found out, that the amount of digits after decimal point of the Standard-
format (german) can be changed in the settings. I have attached a screenshot.

So it's OK that this issue is closed. But in my oppinion you can change it
from "DUPLICATE" to "INVALID".
