Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 27246
Spell check doesn't consider 1st letter capitalization correctly
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:38:26 UTC
When a word is added to the dictionary, the same word with the first letter capitalized will not be recognized. As a word can appear either at the beginning of a sentence or in the middle, it should not be necessary to add the same word twice to account for this. Example: assume that I'm using the (fictitious) adjective victix in a document. I enter the following two sentences: I have several victix apples. Victix apples are very sweet. Auto spell check will flag both uses of this word as unknown. I right click on the first occurrance and add it to my dictionary. All uses of "victix" will now be accepted as correct ... but "Victix" is not recognized as a correct word even though it is simply the same word at the beginning of the sentece.
Also, if you choose "Replace" using an uncapitalized substitution for the first word of a sentence, it is not automatically capitalized as it would be if you were entering in "on the run." Come to think of it, the feature you are requesting is one that has been standardized for spellcheckers for over a decade (I've been working with computers since the "good old days" of CP/M.)
MRU->TL: I also think, that the spelling algorithm should take care of capitalized words at the beginning of a sentence, when the word has been added to a used dic as non-capitalized.
this is not a duplicate of issue #18737 ??? Hwoarang
Target set to OOo later.
I replicated the bug on OOo 1.1.4 (using Windows XP, service pack 2) I also tried adding the word to all the 3 different dictionaries (sun.dic, soffice.dic, standard.dic) and the bug still exists.
also just to clarify, the addition of a word to any dictionary of the 3 is case sensative (no matter where the capital letter is -- first, middle of the word, or last) .. that is just an addition to this bug.
