Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 27515
Dead links in the Open dialog
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:39:55 UTC
Hi, the Open dialog doesn't show the name of dead link. To reproduce: ln -sf /tmp/nonexistent /tmp/dfd so: pavel@SnowWhite:/tmp> LANG=C ls -al /tmp/dfd /tmp/nonexistent ls: /tmp/nonexistent: No such file or directory lrwxrwxrwx 1 pavel users 16 Apr 6 13:07 /tmp/dfd -> /tmp/nonexistent pavel@SnowWhite:/tmp> /tmp/dfd is a dead link. Now run OOo, Ctrl+O. You'll find an empty space instead of the dead link. See attached screenshot. Kendy on IRC proposed: <kendy> paveljanik: Regarding your "broken link" question: What about to display the name of the broken link, and show "Link" (or "Broken link" or something) in the "Type" field? Better than an empty line, I think... I agree.
Created attachment 14366 [details] Empty space instead of the name of broken link is shown
The typical case is: Autofs/automount on GNU/Linux is used. /floppy is a link to /misc/floppy. /floppy is a dead link when there is no floppy in the floppy drive. It is shown as file even when it links to directory and thus user can not enter there. But cd /floppy works as expected (when floppy is present in the drive).
TM->BH: Don´t exactly know what the spec. says about this feature ;o) but as far as I know, our own file-open dialog does display file-system items only. The wish for an ability to show broken links, broken symbolic links or stale links and mounts is surely more a wish for an enhancement than a defect. Please have a look.
