Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 27949
High CPU load while editing sxc file with longer text in cells (5k in one cell)
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:13:40 UTC
70-90%. PÅ™i pohybu myšà nad buňkou s textem je vytÞenà 90-100% až do zastavenà pohybu. Stejné operace v Excelu zatěžujà CPU cca. 4-12%. If in Calc there is entered into one or more cells a lot of text (with LF) aprox. 4-15kB then reaction of system is visibly decreased. It is caused by overloading CPU. When cursor keys are used for movement through these cells, the CPU is loaded from 70 to 90%. When mouse pointer is moved across cell with that text the CPU is loaded 90-100%. The same actions in Excel load CPU from 4 to 12%.

Dan, please investigate (if you have a minute).
I can confirm it, the same on linux, in versions 1.1.0 and 1.1.1. On my system is the cpu load not too high, but there are unusual delays in displaying the contents of spreadsheet in in page scrolling. There are also other problem related to this, the text in editing line is improper formated and displayed. See attachment.

Probably we shouldn't try to format text, which is not shown.
