Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 28074
size saved in Openffice Writer
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:38:26 UTC
I've noted that OpenOffice Writer saves files very big (501 K) when for example incrusted a image .jpg small (like 10 KB). if incrusted same image in Openoffice Calc this file is saved and his size is very reasonable (16K). I hope take accoount my notes.
move to component word processor.
set prio P2 -> P3
Please Attach the documents which make this problem, so we can test it/faster to confirm. (Without the documents, we cannot confirm the problem easily/need more time) Don't forget to cut other part of the documents, so the file size is small, but we still able to see the problem.

I can Reproduce the problem on OpenOffice.org 1.1.1 (default Install, US), Win XP Pro Sp1. (And MS Office XP Sp2). I try to copy the image to word and save, the word file is only 168KB I try to save the sxw to MS office format and the result is 172 Kb. so 501Kb is too big. but I dont know the result. we need to improve it.
HI->DVO: Even the old sdw format is smaller
dvo: For whatever reason, the graphics gets converted to .tif (a non-compressing format) in the .sxw file, and the .tif is ca. 500KB in size. If it had remained a .jpg, the file would have been as small as expected, of course. Sooooo.... the problem is: When (and why) did the file format get converted? Images usually remain in their original format. dvo->jovannyjose: Could you please supply information on how the file was created? E.e., did you start with an empty document, and included the .jpg file? Or was the file imported from another format? If possible, please supply samples of the _original_ files. Thank you. (As explained above: The problem is that once the conversion has been complete, as in the .sxw sample you provided, I can't determine the cause. So I would need to reproduce the problem from the beginning, so I can see where, when and why the converrsion happens.)
