Description norbert2 2004-04-26 11:18:33 UTC
Please...

- enter any text to a spreadsheet

- delete a part of this text using backspace

- press undo:

The restored text is select, although it was not selected before deleting it.
Word correctly does only select the text after undo, if it was selected before
deleting.

Please do also restore the correct selection (in this case no selection) after
undo.

This is an enhancement request for a change of the Selection's behaviour in
Writer and not a defect, just because MS does it in a slightly different way...

The problem also happens with objects (tested with pictures). This is described
in issue 28760.
Comment 6 norbert2 2004-05-10 11:46:42 UTC
correction to last comment
"tested with pictures" -> "tested with pictures and drawing objects"
Comment 7 norbert2 2004-05-10 11:56:51 UTC
All OOo-applications should behave consistently!!!

In the here described case writer is the only application that differs from the
other applications!

So I see this more as bug ...

I agree. "Undo" should restore the status before the action, which includes the
selection or absence thereof before the deletion.

To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on
my owner to the owner "requirements".
Comment 10 MaryPerpar 2014-02-12 14:12:58 UTC
I was able to reproduce this with a basic text document.

I agree with comments 7 and 8. "Undo" should restore you to the status you were in before the action occurred AND the feature ("Undo") should behave consistently throughout the applications in the suite.

Restoring the text with it all highlighted makes it very easy to delete it all by mistake.

restored text is not selected.
