Description aaronforjesus 2004-04-26 19:30:05 UTC
A Watch Window is a separate, small window that remains "on top" and enables
users to monitor a selected set of cells. This is great if you are working on
one sheet that has has links and formulas that apply to certain cells in another
sheet. It works similar to the one in Excel 2003. You may want to rename it,
though, just in case MS has copyrighted the feature.

Hi Bettina,

sounds interesting.

Open the Tols Menu from Excel2k3 and select Formula Auditing and there Show
Watch Window. Now you can add cells to watch into this window.

http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1759,1571629,00.asp
it say:
Our advanced testers also were interested in Excel's Watch Window feature,
something Microsoft added to the application in Office XP. A Watch Window is a
separate, small window that remains "on top" and enables users to monitor a
selected set of cells. Calc does not have a similar feature, but this wouldn't
likely be a deal breaker for FN Manufacturing users because the versions of
Excel they currently use don't offer this functionality.

I vote for this.

I guess that article has gotten around ;-)

It is a *very* helpful feature for complex spreadsheets and No, Calc does NOT
have it. It is NOT a split window. I would like to see it, but it is not a
deal-breaker for me, simply because I, unlike many others, do not write that
many complex spreadsheets.

To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on

I saw an announcement about Watch window extension for Calc, now published in
OpenOffice.org Extensions repository.

http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/en/project/watchwindow

It is developed in Java and source is available under GNU LGPL in ooop SVN
repository at sf.net. It would be nice to get some QA on this extension and make
it ready for integration into OOo code base.

Hi Goran!
Thank you for informing my friends about this extension :o)

I am sure some QA and L10N efforts are warmly welcome.
