Description bobharvey 2004-04-29 10:36:05 UTC
It's quite normal to use bleeding tabs to produce rows of dots between, for example, a title and a
page number. In Writer they are called "fill characters" on the tab dialogue.

I can't find any
way to specify that the first and last "fill chararacters" should be replaced by white space, or
any way to vertially align the "fill character" so they llook nice on the page.

The work-round
appears to be to put extra tabs in, and use "fill characters" only between the inner ones - but that
means that the fill does not go all the way to the word on the left when the word lenghts vary
significantly.

Or I can put a single space at the end of each word on the left, and a tab before
the number, but when using a proportional font the fill characters take thier "flow" from the
words on the left, so the right hand edge is ragged.

What is needed is a user option to specify
minimum white space at each end of a run of fill charactes, and for them to align on the right, not the
left. (in effect they want to be drawn backwards from the right!)

By the way, I really like
the ability to select different "fill characters", it's very smooth.

I still think this is a good idea, and am surprised it remains "unconfirmed"

To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on
