Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 29028
Option "Do not change base point back to top left when close position and size dialog" required
Last modified: 2014-02-12 06:08:31 UTC
draw doesn't remember objects base point. new document, insert any object (for example, rectangle). f4 -> position and size. set any or both base points to some other setting than default (upper left corner), press ok. f4 again - base point is set to the default location.
Sorry, but this behaviour is wanted. If you don't like it please change the issue type to enhancement. Thanks in advance.
changed to enchancement
Reassigned to Bettina.
more on this : actually this applies to all components of the suite (also writer, calc and impress). how this could be : there could be an option for this behavior - 1. don't remember base point, default is (a choice for a default base point); 2. remember base point for all objects; 3. remember base points for each object separately. this should be settable for each application and also easily for all applications.
In a drawing program, the base point is a _very_ important characteristic of the object. If top-left were the only significant reference point, there would be no need to offer the other 8 points. This is the only behaviour of the OOo suite that frustrates me. Every time I edit an object, I have to reset the base point, verify the location and sizes (since they often are off by 0.01mm after having been re-referenced from my specified point to top-left) and then relocate or resize it. Extremely poor behaviour, IMO. (I have been doing technical drawing of one sort or another for over 40 (ouch!) years. This is the only program I've used that does this. Otherwise, wow am I glad to be able to use OOo!
I agree with the post that was just made about 3 hours ago.
