Description jeps 2004-05-17 14:36:36 UTC
I have a paragraph (list) style "Numbering 1" which should use numbering style
"Numbering 1". When I create a new paragraph and aply the paragraph style
"Numbering 1" to it I have to aply the numbering style "Numbering 1" to it manually.

I cannot reproduce the problem. When I edit a paragraph style and go to the
"Numberin" tabpage, set there the numbering style I would like to use and then
apply the paragraph style to the text, it works fine.
So please attach your sample document to this issue, if your problem still occurs.

When I *reopened* the document the problem didn't occur :S
It must be dependent on other things I did this morning.. I'm not able to
reproduce the problem at the moment.

Ok, I've found out how to reproduce the problem:
- Modify the paragraph style "Numbering 1" so that it should use numbering style
"Numbering 1".
- Enter a few lines of text and set the numbering style to "List 1".
- Then set the paragraph style to "*Numbering* 1".
The numbering style doesn't change when you have manually set it before you have
aplied the paragraph style.

MRU->HB: this is a bit inconsequent. Other hard attributes are cancelled when
applying a new paragraph style, but not the numbering style will be exchanged.

reassigned to HBRINKM.

Is there any progress? This issue is a show stopper!

You plan to deliver OOo 2.0 with this (collection of) bug(s) not being fixed? At
the moment, I'm (desperately) trying to prepare a document with chapter/section
numbering, but it is not possible, not at all!

Manually applying list styles for headings is not an option:

* The manually applied list style is not reset in the next (text)
paragraph. Pressing return at the end of a heading

    2.5.6 Some heading<cursor>

  produces something like

    2.5.6 Some heading
    3. <cursor>

* The document is likely to look inconsistent.

The import seems also to be broken:

Open:

http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/download.php/12573/OpenDocument-v1.0-os.sxw

Place the cursor at the end of

  9.2.7 Circle<cursor>

and press return. This produces the funny result of:

  0.0.1 Circle
  1 <cursor>

With or without version number 2.0, this is inacceptable!

I will clearly describe the problem. It's a big problem that worked fine en OOo
1.1.x.
When you modify a paragraph style so it use automatically a numbering style, you
must set it in the Numbering tab of the paragraph style dialog.
So when you aply the modified paragraph style, the Numbering style should aply
automaticaly. It does it right in OOo 1.1.x but in 2.0 the numbering style is
ignored.

Excuse my english, i'm spanish.

This bug effectively prevents the user from automatically *removing* numbering
that has been applied manually. This can cause a problem in large documents that
are trying to be reformatted.

For example:
1) Open a new document
2) Type a line of text (EG "First Heading")
3) Apply the style "Heading 1"
4) Open the "Styles and Formatting" dialog
5) Apply a numbering style under "List Styles" from "Styles and Formatting" (EG
"Numbering 1")
6) Right click the Heading 1 style and select "Modify..."
7) Under the "Numbering" tab, set the "Numbering Style" to "None"
8) Reapply the "Heading 1" style to your line of text

The numbering style will *not* be removed. This is a problem if you are trying
to modify (or even apply a new style) which will remove numbering from a large
section of a document. Also, under the "List Styles" in "Styles and Formatting"
there is no option for applying "None" to a paragraph.

Workaround: Remove the numbering style from the "Format" menu ("Format" ->
"Bullets and Numbering..." -> "Remove" button)

Drawback: This method will apply to the local paragraph only, and is quite
cumbersome for working with documents with large numbers of similarly formatted
paragraphs which must be modified.
