Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 2929
option: Save as xhtml
Last modified: 2003-09-08 16:56:16 UTC
Currently html docs are save 3.2 html OO is XML based right? So the html docs should also be saved in an xml friendly format. thanks Dennis
Joost->Dennis: Did you configure the HTML storing options in /Tools/Options/"Load/Save"/HTML-Compatibility ? It is possible to configure various output formats. But if you want to create a HTML document why do you want this xhtml thing?
xhtml is XML conformant meaning I can process my xhtml documents with other XML applications thereby making my documents much more transferable...I want my HTML to be read by all XML based tools, docbook for example... I'm frankly a bit surprised by your question: But if you want to create a HTML document why do you want this xhtml thing? Isn't XML the whole foundation of OO or have I missed something? Here's a link: http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/ it's a good read... and OO does not give the option of saving as xhtml (I checked /Tools/Options/"Load/Save"/HTML-Compatibility) which means that I have to use another app to clean up the 3.2 html (which should be v4 html too) to make it xhtml conformant... thanks Dennis

(No text here!) -- Just CC'ing myself to this issue.
I write a lot of technical documentation which includes equations and line drawings made with the OpenOffice Writer, Math and Draw modules. These tools are quite sophisticated and work very well. However, you are really limited in the type of scalable output you can produce from OO. Basically, your choices are OO's native format or PostScript (or PDF). I would like to be able to save an entire OO document in XHTML format so that it can be viewed in Mozilla with a reasonable ability to smoothly scale the document to an arbitrary size. This would include converting Math formulae to MathML and Draw drawings to SVG and embedding them all in an XHTML file along with the usual HTML text markup.
This issue is pretty important. CCing myself in.
When implementing XHTML then use XHTML 1.1: http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/ Use W3C's HTML Validator when you test: http://validator.w3.org/ For layot use CSS2: http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-CSS2/ Use W3C's CSS Validator when testing: http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/ One of the best weapons for Open Source is using and comply with open standards and specifications like ISO and W3C.
By default, OOo should preserve the HTML version as indicated in the file's DOCTYPE statement.
XHTML should be the default Web format, with an option to save as HTML 4.1 or 3.2.
StevanWhite: In hope you mean HTML 4.01 because there are no HTML 4.1.
That's right.

just another cc :-)
Note that we have recently upgraded the HTML output to 4.2 specification. This issue is making some progress.
There is no HTML 4.2 specification. Could you clarify which progress has been made? And PLEASE remove the Internet Explorer/Netscape Navigator/OpenOffice Writer options.
Sorry combination of 3.2 and 4. I meant 4.0 Of interest is a message from discuss. http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?msgId=640052&listName=discuss
Please note that there the open issue 4433 requesting HTML4.01 + CSS export.
There is now an option in the Install that includes a Java based filter for saving as XHtml. Does this fix this issue?
I think so!
