Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:19:57 UTC
The grouping of Writer fly frames with each other and in combination with drawing objects should be possible.

it's possible under openoffice drawing, i'm think the object picture is different type under openoffice writer and openoffice drawing, therefore this function existing under drawing module could be implemented under writer module.
I too had noticed this, and was actually about to make comment. I hope that it can be fixed ASAP. It is mightily annoying. Why does Writer need to use separate rendering techniques than Draw, or Impress, or whatever. I often find it frustrating, for instance, that if I want to insert a flowchart linking line, I have to copy it from a Draw document. I am sure there is a good reason for it. Kind Regards, Matthew
This bug make oo to crash if pasted two graph (or images, or..) grouped coming wrom calc when you save the file. I read that writer do not implement groupings other than of drawing objects ( :-((( !), but I don't undestand why if the objects come from draw or impress, they are not pasted to writer, while if they come from calc THE PASTE IS ALLOWED, all go well, exept when the file is saved... they should be stopped, maybe with a pop-up that explain that grouped objects are not allowed in writer, or - even better- with a function that force to be pasted as "special, GDI metafile".
OD->viottolo: Which version of OOo you used? There was a defect 50824, which is fixed for OOo 2.0.1, about pasting grouped drawing object into Writer. The cause, why not all type of objects (text frames, graphics, OLE objects and drawing objects) can be grouped is: - The Writer has a own implementation for text frames, graphics and OLE objects. These types of objects can not be grouped. - The drawing objects from Draw, which are also used in Impress and Calc can be grouped.
I wanted to post the following problem, but am not sure if this issue describes the same thing. Please tell me if it is different, in which case I will raise it as a sparate issue: Grouping the graphic with superimposed graphics not possible. In a typical application, the user can add a screenshot (or a self-prepared graphic) to a document, and then add several markings over it to highlight different parts of it. (Typically, ellipses, numbered circles, text callouts, arrow pointers, etc.) It should be possible to group these objects together, so that they can be referred to as a single article in cross-referencing, fields, etc.. Also, the entire group will stay together (because now it will have a single anchor, rather than multiple anchors) when the surrounding text is edited.
OD->raindrops: Yes, what you describe is exactly, what this feature describes. Graphics are typically Writer fly frames containing a representation of a graphic file. Ellipses, numbered circles, text callouts, arrow pointers are drawing objects.
Ok, thanks! I will add my vote here, then!

with writer, insert picture from file, select "apples.gif", draw a rectangle and try to group these both objects : it's impossible. and also it's not possible to rotate the picture "apples". this problem still existe with OOO-2.02rc4.

Hi Multiple selection is STILL not possible in OpenOffice 3 RC 2.

This feature is really needed! The move of several fly frames is quite difficult without this feature.
