Description shmuelh 2004-07-08 08:57:21 UTC
When a new word is encountered by the spelling checker, it of course displays
the word in the appropriate box, and gives the person the options what to do
with it.

I’ve noticed that if the new word appears at the end of a sentence, it appears
in the spelling box with a period after the word - even though if one adds the
word it is registered without the period (which is as it should be).

The appearance of the word with the period after it is distracting.

MRU->TL: though the full stop will not be replaced, I think we should somehow
ged rid of this minor cinch.

I replicated the bug with OOo 1.1.2 and Windows XP Version 2002 Service Pack2.
Here are the replication steps:

1.Open a new text document.
2.Type sentence “My name is Steve Zhang.â€.
User can type any sentence as long as there is a new word undefined in the
dictionary at the end of the sentence.
3.Spell check the sentence. <Tools -> Spellcheck -> check>
“Zhang.â€the new word with a period appears in the spelling check box.

I can not replicate the bug with other symbols include: ` ~ ! @ # $ % ^ & *
( ) _ - + = | \ : ; “ ' < , > / ? *
It looks like it only appears when user ends the sentence with a period.

I think the main course is that spelling checker doesn't consider other
symbols as the ending symbol. Once the spelling checker encounters the last
word in a sentence, it extracts the last word together with the ending period
and displays it in the dialog box.
