Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 32688
Scientific cell format to snap to common multiples
Last modified: 2010-11-10 17:43:12 UTC
This is a feature/enhancement request to the OOCalc cell formats. For the scientific format, please add an option to cause the scientific format to favor certain exponential terms. This is requested because most scientific work ends up working on powers of 1000 (meters vs kilometers vs millimeters vs micrometers) and it would be helpful to be able to get the scientific cell format to round to the nearest thousand. I.E.: .0123 -> 12.3 E-3 .123 -> 123.0 E-3 1.23 -> 1.23 E+0 12.3 -> 12.3 E+0 123 -> 123.0 E+0 1230 -> 1.23 E+3 And so on. This helps with data analysis since there's many fewer conversions to do in one's head while reviewing results. My suggestion is to add a checkbox for rounding the exponent to the nearest power of 3 or adding an additional entry box for what it's rounding to.
Your wish has been already expressed in issue 5930.
I agree that this is a dupe, but I can't figure out how to make it as a dupe to close it out.
So I will do it. Frank *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 5930 ***
