Description fneto 2004-08-07 20:36:46 UTC
When I create a document or a template with a background image, an set it to
the center of the page (the image has about 11x6 cm of size) it appears
correctly, when I close the document and open it again the image is very big
filling all the A4 page size, and if I print the document the background will
be wrong printed too.

But if add the background image as a link to the document (not embedded to the
document) it works correctly, and when I close the document and open in any
computer it display correctly.

This issue happens with version 1.00, 1.0.1 and 1.1.0 too.

I´ve tested it always with Windows XP Pro SP1 in Brazilian Portuguese and with
the Brazillian Portuguese version of Open Office

From the file, I can only see, that there went something wrong. Could you please
attach the graphic file to this issue, so that we can reproduce the way to this
invalid graphic size?
Thanks for supporting us!

Comment 4 fneto 2004-08-11 21:06:15 UTC
I have attached the image file (zipped archive because of the size of the bmp
file), besides the high resolution of the image the physical dimensions is
about 11.6 x 6.5 cm.

But I've tested with another image files with the same dimensions and low
resolution but the problem continue happens, as I said the only way to use it
correctly is making a link to the image file and not inserting the image file
embedded into the document.

I was unable to reproduce this bug using OOo 1.1.2 English, on Windows Xp Pro.
SP2. These were the steps I took:

1. created a new document
2. used the menu insert->graphics->from file and selected the attached bmp
3. right clicked the image selected anchor on page
4. right clicked the image again, select alignment->centered.
5. right clicked the image again, and selected alignment->center.
6. right clicked it one more time, and selected wrap->background.
7. saved the document
8. closed and re-opened the document

The image was exactly the same size as when it was inserted. Perhaps this is
a problem with the Brazilian Portuguese version.

But it happens when you put the image as a background of the page.
Menu format -> Page -> Background -> then you coose figure and not color.

If you create a link to the figure it works normal, but if you attach the
image to the document, when you close and re-ope it again the problem happen!

Comment 10 runping 2005-02-04 19:54:35 UTC
I replicated the bug with Ooo 1.1.2 and Window XP Professional Version 2002
Service Pack 2. Here are the replication steps:

1.Open a new text document.
2.Change the background of the document. <Format -> Page -> background>
3.Select a graphic as background. <As -> Graphic>
4.Select a specific image file. <Browse -> marcafundo.bmp>
Do select the “link†box.
5.Select position type and set the image in the center of the document.
<Type -> Select position -> Point to center position>
The image appears in the center of the document and the size is same as the
original.
6.Save and reopen the document. The size of the image becomes extremely large
and exceeds the boundaries of the document.

In follow-up tests, I select another bmp image file to set as background in
all positions and types. The image file is correctly set as background after
saving and reopening the document. I also select other types to set the
problematic bmp image file as background. With area type, after saving and
reopening the document, the size of graphic doesn't change.

Before user saves the document, the size of background image is same as its
original. After user saves and reopens the document, the size of background
image becomes extremely large unlike its original. This only occurs in some
specific bmp image file.

First we tried to reproduce the bug in Open Office 1.9.74 since the last
comment on the bug was made in version 1.1.2. The bug appears to be present in
this version also. Following runping’s excellent sets of follow-up tests we
decided to run a ratio test, that is width/height. For example the ratio for
the image that is producing the bug is: Width / Height = 1155 / 685 = 1.68. We
created images with different widths and heights but with the same ratio. The
following table summarizes the results.
Width	Height	Ratio(Width/height)	Results
168	100	1.68	Bug not present or not apparent
1680	1000	1.68	Bug not present or not apparent
1155	685	1.68	Bug not present or not apparent
From this point on we noticed that the ratio was not triggering the failure.
Even more important, the dimension of the image were not the determining
factor for triggering the bug because we created a image that had the same
dimensions as the problematic image and still no bug was triggered.
From here we moved to another aspect of the image, the resolution. We
observed that the problematic image has a resolution of 254dpi. So we went
along and added the resolution to our previous tests.
Width	Height	Ratio(Width/height)	Resolution	Results
168	100	1.68	72dpi	Bug not present or not apparent
168	100	1.68	254dpi	Bug Present
500	500	1	24dpi	Bug present very apparent

This bug seems to be present when loading any document that has an image set
as background without the link option selected. When the resolution of the
image in the background distances form 96pdi (Windows default screen
resolution) in either direction the image is scaled larger and the bug is more
apparent.
An image with a resolution of 254dpi is common amongst designers that produce
images such as logos that will be printer on to banners where their size will
be blown from the original several times.

I was able to reproduce this behavior (1.9.84 - XP Pro) following "runping's"
instructions. (I don't think UI is the proper subcomponent -- taking a stab at
it and changing to "formatting".)

This document also imports with image size problems- OOo1.9.93 and MSWord2000
on XPpro

MRU->DVO: I was only able to reproduce this with the attached "marcafundo.bmp".
Here the steps:

- new document
- apply background image in Format.Page.Background with centered position (do
NOT link the graphic, embed!)
- save document & reload

-> the graphic is shown much larger now.

DVO is definitely the wrong assignee for issues ;-)
OS, if this is not your area, could you please reassign to any of your team
members? Thanks!
