Description Unknown 2004-09-23 13:28:03 UTC
When importing a Hebrew word document into OOo the spacing in the imported
document changes and causes the page layout to be different. For example, if
page 3 in the original word doc begins with paragraph 11.1 in the imported
document page 3 begins with paragraph 11.4.

fixing version number (1.0.3 didn't support Hebrew at all- and the bug report itself says that you use
1.1.1)
Comment 4 inquisword 2005-08-06 20:49:16 UTC
Windows 2000
MS Word 2000
OO 1.9.122

I dowloaded attachment id=17874 and imported it into OO Writer and a read only
copy of same document into MS Word 2000. The documents were not formatted the
same in both applications. Since the document was in .doc format which is
native to MS Word, I would assume that the problem is with OO.

Screen shots of the document as it appears in Writer and MS Word are attached.

Issue confirmed.

inquisword:
From the two screenshots you attached it is clear that the wrapping is different
since OOo and Word don't use the same font...

wordviewer 97 under wine (linux) doesn't cope with RTL (the numbering is left of
the text at all), WordViewer 2003 under wine (linux) shows the document
differently than your copy of Word 2000. (in WordViewer the two lines of point
11.2 are horizontally aligned, whereas in your screenshot the first line starts
right at the numbering and the second line is "indented"..)

I don't know what is the right rendering, I don't have the font "David"
installed, only the font David CLM (from the culmus package), but this font
looks different from both of your two screenshots (it is kind of "italic").

Hi,

I've tested on Windows XP Professional with Office XP and OpenOffice.org m121
In word, the doc-file contains 8 pages, the same doc-file in OOo has 11 pages,
and the sxw-file contains 9 pages. (This is really surprising for me, because I
have only one printer installed, and this is the same for OOo and Word.)

I have additionally made 3 screenshots, which are all showing the beginning of
page 3 (the page which should start with paragraph 11.1).

dina: As you can see from the various screenshot we need more information on the
font you used - even opening the file with Microsoft Word on windows doesn't
result in the same linebreak as in your system. Where can one get this font? Is
it part of Windows? Is it part from MS-Office? Is it a freely available font?

Does OOo use the same font as Word on your system (both eskroni and inquisword
get different fonts in Word vs OOo).

no answer from reporter → closing invalid.

I guess it boils down to the font not being available to OOo.
