Description mosesau 2004-09-28 07:16:44 UTC
If soffice is running, a new application may not open, (hangs on opening or may
not even show the opening splash screen). Using Ctrl-Alt-Delete, then "End Task"
for soffice colses soffice and the new app will then continue to load/open
correctly. Apps affected include Firefox, Thunderbird, Ontrack Power Desk, MS
Hearts, MD5Summer, and many other utilities. I cannot assign the fault to any
specific application or vendor. Issue also occurs under 680m54.

SW->TM: please have a look at this

Need more info about the hardware. Especially the amount of free memory during
the time OOo is running. This problem is not reproducible. This is not a general
OOo problem but may be harware-related.

Memory: I have removed all but Explorer from the Ctrl-Alt-Delete window and
still have the problem. 512Mb DDR RAM - upgrade from 256Mb has not helped this
issue. Makes no difference whether I allocate 1Gb for swap file or let Windows
manage it.
Hardware: Celeron 1.8 GHz cpu on Gigabyte board. 120 Gb HDD.
OpenOffice is the only common denominator, ie, it only happens when OO is
running. Sometimes OO will not load, leaving soffice running in the background.
Removing soffice (Ctrl-Alt-Delete) and reloading it will usually start it correctly.
Any specific hardware questions?

Sorry, not reproducible when using an OOo (680m54 build) on Win98 SE.
Applications can be started while OOo is still running (Hearts, Netscape,
Mozilla, Internet-Explorer,...).
