Description Rainer Bielefeld 2004-09-28 09:52:35 UTC
This problem has been reported by Fabian Kumkar in users@de.openoffice.org:

> fter OOo crashes (which happens once in a while), the links in my global
> document (?) pointing at the sub documents are somehow destroyed.
> The link should look like:
> /dir/sub_dir1/sub_dir2/sub_dir3/file.sxw
> instead, it looks like:
> /dir/sub_dir1/dir/sub_dir1/sub_dir2/sub_dir3/file.sxw
>
> A same behaviour has been reported for linked graphics.

Unfortunately we currently do not have a way to make that problem reproducible!

Could someone please check relation to other issue(s)?

Hi!

I'm the guy from the mailing list. It happened again...
This time OOo has just forgotten one of the directories in the whole path.
> The link should look like:
> /dir/sub_dir1/sub_dir2/sub_dir3/file.sxw
> instead, it looks like:
> /dir/sub_dir1/sub_dir3/file.sxw
I could send the doc for further examination but would rather not like to add it
to this issue, but if it's necessary... But is it helpful anyway? I have no idea
of any reason, no structure I could detect, but I will try to be cautious.

Sorry, forgot something: not necessarily connected to a crash! Happens once in a
while, no idea connected to what!

Comment 5 Rainer Bielefeld 2004-09-29 18:35:17 UTC
If you are able to do the time consuming procedure:
May be you can
- remove most of the content from your document
- test with a "crash - issue" (Keyword!) whether you can make it
  reproducible on your PC
- contribute the paths with the documents as a zipped test-kit" with
a short step by step instruction how to effect the crash.

fkumkar, may be same reason as in issue 17124?

Global document with destroyed links
Comment 9 fkumkar 2004-09-30 08:07:38 UTC
@rainer1:
has at least nothing to do with 'Save all', I have never touched this. Have
tried it though with two documents open, no problem with this command.

@rainer2:
could you describe your proposal for me in more detail, regarding the provision
of a test-kit?

attachment: the missing directory is 'Chapter Drafts' after 'diplom'

Comment 10 Rainer Bielefeld 2004-09-30 15:26:48 UTC
Hi fkumkar,

What we need is a complete document with all subdocuments, that can be used on
any PC. Only that can be useful to reproduce the problem by qa- or developer
staff. I do not believe that only the '.sxg' can help. The syntax of the (few
ones I checked, what subdocuments are affected?) links to the sub-documents
seems to be correct.

I tried to create an own document to reproduce the problem as described in issue
17124, but I failed; I was not able to destroy the links to the sub-documents.

Do you have that problem in all your global documents or only in that one?

If we can not find a method to make the problem reproducible, we will have to
wait until someone will follow my hint in issue 17124.

Rainer
Comment 11 fkumkar 2004-09-30 19:44:48 UTC
Hi Rainer:

- it is my first and only global document I have ever produced until now
- how shall I provide this file / set of files? Creating a zip-file of a
directory? Does that work?
- the links look ok, but one sub-directory in the middle is missing.... so the
whole path is incomplete
- the problem concerns always all sub-documents in the global document

Sorry for not being able to give more hints...
I have created a dummy global doc, which I will try to open once in a while,
waiting for the thing to happen....

Comment 12 fkumkar 2004-10-03 18:24:32 UTC
Hi!

Happened again...
This time:
instead of
dir1\dir2\dir3a\file.sxw
today
dir1\dir2\dir3b\dir3a\file.sxw
in which dir3b is a directory of the same level as dir3a, but for another chapter...
Fabian
Comment 13 fkumkar 2004-10-05 10:08:42 UTC
Cheers...

This time:
OOo crashed after a format change in a table, while global doc was open, had to
kill the OOo process after 10 minutes of 95% system resources use of soffice.exe.
 afterwards the links instead of
dir1\dir2\dir3\dir4\file.sxw
today
dir1\dir4\file.sxw

Hi Fabian,

we do not have any doubt that it happens, so it will not be useful to add more
examples for folder-structures. The problem is to find out the reason for the
destroyed links.

for example:
Was there any other document open in '...\dir1\', '...\dir2\', '...\dir3\',
'\dir4...\' when the crash occured?

Odd, it looks like my embedded objects disappear after a time.... Strange! And
now when I open a document that used to work, it no longer works. Strange, it
seems to be related to how long OOo has been open....
Comment 16 eric.savary 2004-10-23 22:31:31 UTC
Hi Fabian!

You reported for OOo 1.1.2. Can you please try a 1.1.3 or a current version?
Please also give us your *real* directory names. It may be usefull to know if
you use speciall characters in them.
In the meantime, I park this issue as "WORKSFORME"
Comment 17 fkumkar 2004-10-24 10:33:05 UTC
hi es!

I will try it in roughly two weeks, because I am just about to finish a thesis
and do not want to update now. But afterwards I'll do it.

Fabian
Comment 18 fkumkar 2004-10-25 10:27:40 UTC
might be a trivial statement, but:
Since I have switched from relative to absolute links in OOo options, the
problem has not occured again. (still with OOo 1.1.2)

Fabian
Comment 19 fkumkar 2004-10-28 10:31:54 UTC
sorry, have to withdraw my last statement: it happens regardless if relative or
absolute links are stored.

We still have the problem that we need a possibility to make it reproducible for
everyone.

I have seen that the last entry was in December and that this issue is OOo-1.1.2 related ... :(
Does someone tried this with a newer version of OOo like 1.1.4 or some 1.9.xx builds? Or
could some close this issue, please?
Comment 24 Rainer Bielefeld 2005-05-16 13:50:44 UTC
It is absulutely true that I still have problems with lost images because of
damaged path structure in the hyperlinks to the images 1.1.4 (German) WIN XP:
[645m52(Build8824)]. The trouble is that until now we did not find any way to
make that problem reproducible.

I blieve that this is a global- / local-variables in OOo, codem as we found out
somewhere during tests for issue 17124.

So I do not see any other possibility to leave this issue UNCONFIRMED, until
someone can say WORKSFORME or we find out that it is FIXED.

This Issue requires more information ('needmoreinfo'), but has not been updated
within the last year. Please re-test with one of the latest versions of OOo -
the problem(s) may already be addressed. Either use the latest stable version:
http://download.openoffice.org/index.html
or consider trying the new OOo 3 BETA (still in testing):
http://download.openoffice.org/3.0beta/

Please report back the outcome of your testing, so this Issue may be closed or
progressed as necessary - otherwise the issue may be Resolved as Invalid in the
future. You may also wish to search for (and note) any duplicates of this Issue
that may have progressed further :

Comment 26 Rainer Bielefeld 2008-05-15 06:09:28 UTC
I checked with "3.0.0 Beta Multilingual version English UI WIN XP: [300m2
(Build9301)]" as following:

1. Opened one of my global documents with 8 sub documents
2. Crashed OOo using the bug reported in Issue 89030
   OOo crashed as expected
3. Newly opened OOo, so that document recovery started
4. Pressed <ok> for "Update links"
5. Checked my global document after recovery had finished, and all looked fine,
   no link was destroyed.

So I believe we can close this issue WFM, until new information might show that
the problem sill exists.
