Description jjr16 2004-12-04 20:06:10 UTC
Upon installation of OpenOffice.org 1.x, the user is typically asked to setup a
Java Runtime Environment for OOo to use (via the jvmsetup program). Everything
is fine and good after that until they uninstall the JRE version that OOo is
setup to use. Even if they install another JRE version, OOo doesn't seem to
notice and the Java-dependent features of OOo are disabled. Which is a problem,
especially for users dependent on the accessibility features that OOo provides.
So, IMHO, what I recommend would be for OOo on startup to check to see if the
runtime library (RuntimeLib=...) listed in the OOo1.x\user\config\java.ini file
still exists. If not then run the Java Setup program (jvmsetup).

I am currently using OOo 1.1.2rc on Windows 98SE. Please confirm if this issue
extends to other Operating Systems, also.

SBA->UL: Please proceed.
Comment 2 Olaf Felka 2004-12-16 11:00:06 UTC
of: Not a bad idea. But: This will bring a real downgrade in the startup
performance. For OOo we don't have the jvmsetup any longer. There you'll find
the java settings in the options settings.

Oh, OK. I see now that OOo 2.0 will automatically select a Java installation
when needed. But the many users of OOo 1.x need this feature, too. Maybe it
will be better if this check is performed at the time Java support is needed....

Tried to make summary more telling, setting keywords, confirming
original summary: After Java uninstall, OOo disables its Java support.

This issue was originally reported for OpenOffice.org 1.x.
Since many versions back, OpenOffice displays all available JREs under Tools > Options > OpenOffice[.org] > Java and enable the user to choose the JRE that should be used. Based on Comment 4 by the original bug submitter, this seems to solve the issue.
Status change from CONFIRMED to RESOLVED FIXED.
