Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 38888
Text to columns (refer to Excel) - import from csv data
Last modified: 2007-06-15 09:56:36 UTC
"Text to Columns" that I use in MS-Excel - is missing from Open office Chart. The function is very handy when handling Comma Separated Value - data and does the ordering from csv data into the rows and columns. That is needed when copy-pasting .csv-"raw"data from the internet-site directly to the openoffice.org Calc and sorting and analyzing the data there. This lack of functionality is literally preventing me from using Open Office 2.0 Chart in hour-reporting to our customer and I have to use Excel in that in stead. BR, Tapio Junes CEO

I think this is a general calc issue and not a chart specific thing so I changed the component to be spreadsheet.
Duplicate of Issue 4040. Note that as of v2.2, text pasted into Calc from an unknown source will invoke the Text Import dialog box which provides this functionality. There is also a macro available to do this to a range of data (as Excel does) here: http://www.ooomacros.org/user.php#104183
