Description gromitoouser 2004-12-15 00:08:55 UTC
I have a label programme which takes data from an OO spreadsheet (that was
imported from excel). When running mailmerge, one can see the data that is
coming from the datasource. I observe that after editing the datasource
spreadsheet to include new/updated data, the mailmerge function still shows the
previous version of data. This includes both the preview window and the actual
merged document.

Closing the label document and re-opening (electing to update links) does not
seem to make any difference.

Closing the whole OO application and re-opening the label document (electing to
update links) does not seem to make any difference.

Restarting the computer DOES seem to cause the updated datasource to be used.

Can anybody cast any light on this?

isn't this the famous "datasources do not refresh" - issue?
consequently i think that this issue is a duplicate of issue 9899.

HI, please close this issue if you agree.

Thanks, Max

Thanks for the feedback, guys.

I can confirm this is the same issue as 9899. Apologies for not being more
skillful when I checked to see if this was an existing problem.

By the way, for what it is worth, I have some additional comments.

1) I checked back in Microsoft Office and noted that whenever the Mailmerge
command is is invoked, the working file refers to the most recently saved
version of the data file. Neither the working file nor the data file need to be
closed and re-opened (or anything more drastic than that). I do believe that
this is the behaviour that most users would expect.

2) I discovered that if one uses more than one data file (two sets of addresses.
for example), then swapping between the two datasources forces a refresh.
However, this is unlikely to help most people.

I would be quite interested to hear if this is going to be fixed in OO 2. If
not, I do suggest that some form of documentation or on-screen message is called
for. I NEARLY sent out an incorrectly mailmerged project as it never ocurred to
me that it could be possible that after changing the datasource, the old version
would still be used by the working document...

Cheers.

gromitoouser, unfortunately - as of today - this issue is targeted as "OOo
later", which means later then OOo 2.0. Please consider voting for issue 9899..
