Description martinez6 2004-12-17 13:35:25 UTC
A feature to work in a structure delivered by a dtd or scheme,
the usage of the elements should be limited by the rules scheme or dtd while
writing, a possibility to connect the elements of the dtd with style-information
(like Framemaker+XML EDD)
Comment 1 michael.ruess 2004-12-17 14:13:51 UTC
MRU->ES: do you have an idea, what this could be?
Comment 2 eric.savary 2004-12-17 14:47:44 UTC
No.
-> martinez6: can you dsetail a little bit whish?
Comment 3 martinez6 2004-12-20 08:58:52 UTC
Ok, i try to give more info:

With "Framamaker+XML" from "Adobe" it is possible to import a dtd-file and
create a document that follows the rules of the dtd. The dtd limits the usage of
certain elements, e.g. paragraphs and headings. This is useful for working on
structured documents like manuals, where certain elements of text should only
appear at the right place, because they have a certain funtion, e.g. describing
a part of a machine, describing how to use a feature of that machine, etc.

Its possible to work like this with a XML-editor like Epic or XMetal.
Additionally Framemaker creates a file called EDD ("Element Definition
Document") where it assigns style and formating informations to the elments of
the dtd-file used.

It would be nice to have a feature in openoffice, which allows to import a
dtd-file and to assign styles to the elements of the dtd.
When you write in the document based on that dtd, openoffice sould take care
that the elements are used in the order of the dtd.

Now do you understand what i mean ?

Greetings

Martin

Yes I understand now. But I doubt about the wide impact of such feature among
OOo users...
Comment 5 martinez6 2004-12-21 12:25:19 UTC
Ok, you may doubt about the impact, but:

"Word 2003" has a feature like this, but it doesnt work very well,
(because it doesn´t take care about the usage of elements in a strict dtd-order)
so Word 2003 is not a tool of my choice as a technical writer.
If Open Office had such a feature, it would become a great alternative to
"Framemaker".

This Issue requires more information ('needmoreinfo'), but has not been updated
within the last year. Please re-test with one of the latest versions of OOo -
the problem(s) may have already been addressed. Either use the recent stable
version: http://download.openoffice.org/index.html
or consider trying the new OOo 3 BETA (still in testing):
