Run OO.o writer

Open a document

Press F11 to open stylist

make a selection of words. Click the new style from selection icon in stylist.
Nothing happens. Click the dropdown arrow at the end of the menu item and
choose the 'New Style from Selection' menu item. The dialog opens and works fine.

Seems the icon is broken. If the icon is to work on the recent-done action then -
it should create new style
it should update the style; or
it should Load styles

Reassigned to ES.

It works like any other drop down menu icon. A long click or a simple click on
the dropdown arrow.

using 680m74 - win2k - writer

I am reopening this issue after examining what happens in other applications and
even in OO.o in other contexts.

i would like to give the example of OO.o backing window: The standard toolbar
has the new document icon with a drop down alongside. Now if u click the icon a
text document is opened. That means u don't have to pull down the menu a second
time unless you want to change the option.

In other cases: -

If there is drop down list attached to an icon, the icon itself changes to the
recently used one. A single click on the icon produces the same result
associated to that particular [active] icon/command. You can examine the Zoom
function of Acrobat Reader.

Therefore I propose to change the behaviour of the create new style from
selection. This behaviour would be somewhat intelligent and user-friendly.

cd: This is not broken. Due to our new toolbar design, you can now open the
dropdrown menu with a additional dropdown button. Therefor you think a click on
the button should now behave differently. We think about a general solution, but
your solution would need much developer time as it must be implemented for every
single function with a dropdown button.

cd: There will be a meeting in a couple of days to talk about this special
problem. I will send this bug to the responsible developer, if we decide to fix it.

cd->aparan: We discussed our problem and decided to use another toolbar button
style where a button consists of a "button and a dropdown button" as a
composition ( you cannot use both of them).
The "new style from selection"-button will be one of those, so your solution is
more a request for enhancement. Sorry, but I hope that we can implement your
request in the next version. We will use 39612 to fix the button style.

Comment 9 aparan 2005-02-08 11:25:39 UTC
changed summary to suit an enhancement.

But this takes the shape of a defect sometimes. For e.g. in Calc when u make a
selection and pick a border type from the toolbar button. Then u make another
selection and click the button again. Nothing happens :( This puts the user at
the inconvenience of pulling donw the list of buttons [in the case borders] and
clicking them.

I think the issue could be prioritised to be included in 2.0 perhaps?

About the generality of the case: Why the New document icon behaves differently?
