Description memnoch 2004-12-31 12:01:07 UTC
I try to insert in a document selected columns from a databasetable via the menu
"insert Databasecolumns". But the window with the dialog "insert
Databasecolumns" remains empty, although the databasetable got 16 fields.
Result, I cannot insert anything...

I tested this on two machines. One with Windows 2000, the other with XP Home. On
both runs a mysql-Database and Openoffice 1.1.4. While testing, I recognized an
interesting behaviour. On the XP-machine the selection of columns is possible in
other tables, but not in the one, I need. On 2000 with any table the
column-field remains empty.

Hi memnoch,

I don't get you. AFAIK there is no dialog called "insert Databasecolumn".

Can you please provide a step-by-step description what you do?

Thanks Marc

Hi Marc,

I meant the dialog "insert Databasecolumns". Sorry, I am no native.

But step by step:

1. Hit F4 to get the datasources. Choose a table
2. Left-click on a table, hold the click and move in the screenpart where the
normal document is.
3. Now the dialog "insert databasecolumns" (Datenbankspalten einfügen)
appears. The point table has two fields, on with Databasecolumns and on with
tablecolumns.

The Field databasecolumn should contain the columnnames of the databasetable
which you can choose to be uses in your documenttable.

I hope it is clear now, what I mean, if you want, I can add a screenshot.

Greetings

Raphael

I have tried to reproduce this bug on OOo1.1.4 with a Windows 2000 ver.
5.00.2195, P4 2GHz machine without any luck. It was mentioned that on Windows
2000, the columns field remains empty for any selected table. However, when the
default table biblio, provided with OOo1.1.4, is selected the column names of
the table appear in the 'Database columns' field. The following is the
detailed set of replication steps describing how I was able to achieve the
above mentioned effect.

1. Create a new Text document. Press F4 and in the above left corner you
should see a TextArea with a listing of Tables.
2. If you don't have any Tables saved on your HD like I did, then you should
only see 'Bibliography', so select this and goto 'Tables' and select 'biblio'.
3. Left-mouse click 'biblio' and drag it to text area under the table with the
fields filled in. You should now see a dialog menu, 'Insert Database Columns'
pop up.

Now, there should be 2 large TextAreas, one for the column names of the Dbase
records titled 'Database Columns', and another on the right titled 'Table colum
(s)'. The 'Database Columns' area should be filled with the column names of
the database in alphabetical order. For ie. "Address, Annote, ... , Volume,
Year"

It was also mentioned by Raphael that, "on the XP-machine the selection of
columns is possible in other tables, but not in the one, I need"... this could
be a sign that there maybe wrong with the specific database file that Raphael
is trying to open with OO. If all the other tables worked, why couldn't this
specific one work? -- It would be greatly appreciated if the file that Raphael
had trouble with could be provided as an attachment :) This way further
follow up tests could be run.

Thanx

Thanks to Marc, I can be more specific about the problem. OOo 1.1.4 does not
open databases with less or more then six letters. The database "I need" had
four letters (name is "diss"), and I recognized, that another table which worked
had six letters, name is "privat". When I changed "diss" to "uniuni" it worked.
With all other tables it worked as well. Having seven letters, there were not
shown any column-fields. But reducing it to six letters, it finaly worked.

With the latest beta 1.9.74 the number of letters of databases is not longer
relevant.

Is it now possible for you to reproduce it, Hua_d?

Hi memnoch

does this mean that the problem is solved with 2.0 devel build?

Hi Max,

with the german 2.0 (1979 or so) build it worked, although the database-menue
seems still a bit buggy.

Raphael

Sorry for delay.
