Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 41304
KDE plugin: Vertical lines in treeview dialogues, garbled fonts
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:34:16 UTC
If you change the standard fontsize of KDE, the treeview of e.g. Tools/Options sometimes shows vertical lines left and right by the option text. You have to click "wildly" through the options to reproduce the effect: for example: Tool/Options fresh opened window: -OpenOffice.org User Data General Memory Views ... and after clicking, scrolling: -OpenOffice.org |User Data| General |Memory| |Views| ... Here the point "General" has got no lines. The same happens if you scroll through with the curser keys up and down. These lines will vanish as soon as the window does a "repaint". Happens on xfree and xorg.

I have the same problem with the OOo2 beta series as well. However, I have been unable to correct it by changing the size of the fonts in KDE. My System: - PCLinuxOS (based on Mandriva) - Xorg 6.8.2 - ATi Radeon 7500@1024x768 - KDE 3.4.1

I belive I was wrong that it has something to do with the font. As far as I know the lines will only happen with radeon graphic cards (but I think I saw it once on a SIS VGA chipset with OO 1.1) - with the xorg server and also with the driver from ATI. Meanwhile I use a NVIDIA an it happens that there are no lines. By using the ATI this graphical error will ONLY occur in OpenOffice. Therefore I think that it's something wrong in OO.
pl: Philipp, do you have an idea what can cause this? I can see it with a Radeon card as well :-(

Actually i have seen such problems with edit fields (see issue 52040); which seem to be a problem with the radeon driver in that case which does not process XOR operations correctly. tom1200: do you happen to use a radeon card, also ? all: Does using the "frgl" driver from ATI instead of the generic radeon driver help any ?
pl: Yes, I have a radeon 9600XT, which I temporarily changed for an older NVIDIA, because of the bad quality of the diver. I took notice of the lines with a fresh installed SuSE 9.3 and the generic Radeon XOrg driver once, but also with the ati fglrx driver.
So, I found this bug in the x.org bugzilla: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1424 Seems that the workaround is to turn off the Render Acceleration by setting option "RenderAccel" "Off" in xorg.conf; I did not try it myself yet.
My ThinkPad has a Radeon 7500 card and is not supported by ATi's drivers. I can only use the open source ones. Also; I have looked at the freedesktop link cited, and I can't find the fix kendy is talking about. What is the thread heading? and how do I install it?
Oh? I see it as the first comment there: ------- Opened by Giacomo Perale on 2004-09-20 01:37 [reply] ------- After upgrading to xorg 6.8.0 (installed with Gentoo ebuild) I noticed some graphic glitches in font rendering, and yesterday casually I've discovered that they are caused by Render Acceleration, and they disappear if I set Option "RenderAccel" "Off" in my xorg.conf. I have a Radeon 7500 (detected as ATI Radeon 7500 QW (AGP/PCI)). Please have a look at the screenshot that follow in this comment, I think it is exactly the same you have problem with.
FYI: See also the issue #55943 - also related to radeon or fglrx driver. But using those 2 xaa options doens not help to solve this specific issue.
I can confirm this issue using * Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 * ATI Radeon VE/7000 QY * XFree86 4.3.0.1 (Debian 4.3.0.dfsg.1-14sarge1) * XFree86 module 'radeon_drv.o' version 4.0.1 * XFCE4 (window manager) Adding the following line to the device section in XF86Config-4 helps: Option "NoAccel" "true" (This makes rendering very slow, however.) Also using the Radeon card with the VESA module helps and no lines/artefacts remain.
