Description peteredwards 2005-01-27 20:45:17 UTC
I have a large multi-sheet spreadsheet developed over the years from an early
Excell, via StarOffice 5.2 (I think) then OpenOffice (build 641) and now
transferred to OpenOffice 1.1.3.
If I continually save as type StarCalc5.0 (.sdc) everything is OK.
If I save as OpenOffice default type (.sxc) many of the strings vanish. They
are still present in the data, as can be seen in the 'Input line' when a
seemingly empty cell is selected.

I also need to export the file to Excel (5.0). This was OK with OO 641, but
the same problem is happening if I use OO 1.1.3.

I have a small portion that exhibits the problem - how can I attach it to this
issue? .sdc and .sxc are 186KB and 11KB respectively.

Hi Niklas,

seems to be a problem with the format codes conditions.

Is there any chance of some movement on this issue some time soon? I would
really like to move over to OO 2.0, I am currently stuck on 1.1.5 for day-to-
day work, and OO 641 for export.

To summarise and simplify, if I start with a good Excel file (will try to
attach) I can read it in with any OO version and it displays correctly, but if
I then save it in any format (Excel or native) by OO 2.0 or 1.1.5 and open
that version (by anything), the strings are hidden.

This is problem of compatibility with previous version, not necessarily
a 'defect'. Problem concerns number formats with zero suppression but no
allowance for strings.

I suggest close this issue, and I will raise another more specific one afrer
investigating further.
