Description Unknown 2002-04-22 01:50:35 UTC
Using version 641d on Redhat 7.1.

It would probably be good if the spell check suggested contractions that look
like a misspelled word, eg "don't" for "dont" and "isn't" for "isnt". This
isn't a huge deal as the spell check catches the words as wrong, but it should
probably be added before the 1.0 release if it isn't too much work (or hasn't
already been fixed).

Keep up the good work guys, it looks great.

Joseph

Joseph, thanks for taking the time to post this suggestion.

OOo 1.0.1 still does not suggest contractions.

I'm going to change this issue into a enhancement request.

Duplicated on Win NT 4.0 SP6a, OOo 1.0.1.

Thank you for using and support OOo.

MRU->TL: StarOffice's Lingu module is capable of this. Who would be
the right person to implement this into OO's Lingu module?

TL->Kevin: Can you take of this?

Hi,

Somehow I must have missed this one earlier. My apologies.

There is no technical reason why MySpell can not suggest
contractions. All suggestions created by single character insertion
are controlled by the "TRY" string in the affix file.

So if you simply edit

OpenOffice.org1.0.1/share/dict/ooo/en_US.aff with any text editor
and change the following line:

TRY esianrtolcdugmphbyfvkwESIANRTOLCDUGMPHBYFVKW

to add the single quote character like so

TRY esianrtolcdugmphbyfvkwESIANRTOLCDUGMPHBYFVKW'

It should now suggest contractions that exist in the dictionary.

The "TRY" string lists potential characters to insert in the order
of decreasing frequency of occurence in the dictionary (the "e" is
found most often, etc).

So please give this a try (no pun intended) to make sure it works
properly for you and if so, I will add the ' to the TRY string for
the next release after soon to be / just announced 643.

Again, sorry for the delay in dealing with this, it simply fell
through the cracks.

Hello,

I made the change you suggested and it now works perfectly.

No problem on the delay of getting this fixed, it really wasn't that big
of an issue for myself. It was just something I noticed and thought you
guys might want to know about.

Keep up the good work,

Joseph

Hi,

I have now included this in my 643 build and tested it and will
commit it to the 643 tree.

Thanks,

Kevin
